Our cat is boarding at a cattery in the Adelaide Hills. Of course the worry is that he and the other cats and people are ok as it's located in one of the towns where it was suggested people evacuate. Thankfully it seems the wind change has stopped the fire racing towards the town. It doesn't seem like any lives lost which is amazing given the extent of the fire which is huge. It touched on Adelaide suburbs.
It's only January and really only one day of heat so far this summer. Heaven help Adelaide in February.
Trying to reassure ourselves that all was going to be ok, but not as though we could do anything, we spent the day on kayaks and snorkelling. The fish were beautiful and plentiful but the coral pretty much dead as of a few years ago.
We learnt the trick of attracting fish when snorkelling on Gili Trawangan near Lombok, Indonesia, by filling a plastic drink bottle with water and bread then putting a hole in the lid then squishing it. The fish love it.
They very quickly swarm around and work out that the source is the bottle so they start attacking that. They got into a bit of a frenzy (and I was out in the deep on my own) so I put the bottle under my rashie. Next thing they were attacking me! Just up to 12 inches in length but they pack a punch.
The next bay is where all the snorkelling tours drop off. There were 9 boats each containing around 50 people. So very busy. I think the other side of the island is too windy at the moment so they all base themselves next to us.
Unfortunately no pix as I didn't want to risk having the phone stolen or take it with me and get wet.
So a sunshine filled day today. Now just sorting out dinner plans. It's exhausting.
