@Mattg had some interesting thoughts on this on the latest AFF on Air podcast. Check it out.

I can't find the podcast referring to double SC promotions. Can I ask which date was the podcast?

48 flash sale on now - eventually they will run out of other tricks in the sale play book and run a DSC again.
Thats what I'm hoping the sale fares are not so great from Canberra - basically much the sale as fares at other times - so I'd rather hang for DSC!

I think the only folks holding out for a DSC promotion are actually reading and posting in this thread! 😄 And QF probably know this and are probably eavesdropping, so when we all post that we’ve given up waiting and made our bookings .....wham, that’s when they’ll launch the promotion!

Hmm, not sure the sums add up. 440 people (not excluding small furry creatures) have read this thread. In the scheme of Qantas bookings, I would not think this is a significant number. I actually suspect the number of people who actively exploit DSC's to seriously enhance their status is quite low. To most I speak to, assuming they've even noticed a DSC promotion is on, it's a nice little bonus but not something they get strategically serious about.

Lets be honest, a vast number of QFF flyers still don't understand the distinction between SC and points (just read facebook for 5 minutes, if you can stomach it), and given many won't reach status, handing out points which can be converted to toasters (which have a once-off cost) vs SCs "that QFF take away every year" (in their eyes) means only those who really understand how this could help them leverage a higher status (and therefore cost QF considerably more per flight than they would as lower status) would bite.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be a decent lever to get those in the know to bring forward their bookings, but given the much higher rate of double point promotions this year I am quite confident they are also leveraging the "look mum, we get double points if we book bali now" less-frequent flyer crowd.

So recently there has been the around the world in 8 days sales (or whatever it was), and recently "Pacific and NZ sale", a 48 hour flash sale, and now the "Fly luxe for less" sale. IIRC, in the past there's usually a bunch of sales, and then a DSC at the end?

I really hope there is one coming up
At this stage I am likely to lose my platinum for the 20/21 year . If a DSC came up I would probable book a trip to retain

I’m more likely to still let my Platinum slip and consider booking trips to regain it if there is a DSC offer

I think, as many have said in the thread above, QFF is using all the tricks in the Sale book to make sure that they've made enough business.

When they're out of any more sale to be offered, they'd release the DSC. By doing this, QFF is ;

1. Limiting the number of people making use of DSC offers, so that in effect limits the number of people progressing through their membership tiers. The more people at the top of their tiers, more are the benefits that QFF has to offer.

2. QFF has understood the customer mentality - in saying that I mean, QFF knows that even though people have made use of the sale offers, they still wouldn't hesitate to make use of DSC to get more credits than the usual. This means increased revenue on top of the revenue made already from sale offers

3. My guess is QFF will release a general DSC next with validity period close to 1 year - to ensure that next year bookings are already locked in with QFF. With QFF reporting a dip in profits I guess they'd do this to get more money into the company

Repeat after me: “My name is mrsterryn and I’ve been addicted to status for...” ;) :p
Officially laughed loudly
One of the worst (best) things about retiring is the time to play .....um research trips
Unfortunately my husband has now retired and wants to ummm research as well
He says it is his time to gallivant (I do need to point out he is platinum and will be maintaining for at least another couple of years *grumble grumble *)

I thought his reply like mine to Mrs Blackcloud would be "Well what is the point of status unless you can get to enjoy it!" ;)
Please note I too am waiting for a DSC to retain WP.

I'd love a DSC, but all my trips for this year are booked (during DSC, of course) and I don't have any more trips in the pipeline yet ... so wondering what I'd do if a DSC is released.

By the time my planned trips for this year are completed, I will be 215 SC short to become a QF Plat. Sure, I could go ahead and book a status run for 215 SC and become a Plat, but, I'm not sure if I'd be doing as much travelling as I did this year, next year & if the QF Plat would be put to best use ... So confused :S
