Wine? Where do I start?

Now let's see.... umm.... well there is Pure Blonde.... aah that is not wine.... umm.... and then there is Tiger.... but that is not wine either.... umm.... darn....

Is it OK not to have a wine of choice? I can drink white wine, champagne or sparkling if I really have to drink wine but that is where my knowledge of wine ends. :-|

Perfectly ok. I have rule: if someone puts a drink in front of me I drink it. If it is truly bad a shot of port does wonders to make it drinkable. ;)

I would have to agree with what ever Tuapekastar suggests to drink when it comes to wine choices, I have been to New Zealand a few times and usually just rely on what ever tuapekastar suggests and his suggestions are usually very good. Surprisingly or not surprisingly I have probably have drunk about 1 bottle of wine but only when I am in New Zealand.

I am more of a beer drinker but then the taittinger champagne in the Sydney or Melbourne First lounge is pretty good, and I usually just stick to that, might have to try one of the wines but would need tuapekastars suggestions for that.

Still slowly and gloriously making my way through a couple of cases of the 98 that I picked up at a going out of business sale.

This week a 90 Eileen Hardy shiraz and a 92 Tahbilk cabernet.

When I drink wine I can't go past a good shiraz...

That said wine is not my first choice of drink...

Coffee...
my wine of choice is Pinot Noir and Sangiovese obviously not together =)

Very late to this thread, but 2011 has been a tough year - everything 89 - 05 drank post flood to ease the pain, and the wine fridge is down to a drink now (if you need to, but best to wait), so after a few tips.
Like many (and although Hunter born and bred) am a fan of the SA wines. Current quaffing favourite is Tim Smith Shiraz - even better that it's one of the Kemeny's Hidden Labels at a ridiculously cheap price. Enjoyed the Nepenthe Sav Blanc too.
Think it is worth giving cool climate Aussie Pinot Noirs a go - recall enjoying Scotchmans Hill, Principia, Abels Tempest and Josef Chromy.
Bloodwood from Orange is all good, very partial to the Riesling and Rose. Lay it down for a few years and the Schubert and Maurice are even more outstanding.
BNE summers well suited to Verdelho and Rose, so looking to expand beyond my usual McLeish and Tulloch, and Bloodwood Big Men in Tights. Turning to Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigios from SA, NZ and Italy - so shout out your favourites here too.
Do I like my wine - oh yes, just as much as I like my Bombay Sapphire and Indian Tonic, though will stray and be a little more adventurous on imbibing the former, and open to suggestions.

Very late to this thread, how could I have missed it?

My collection consists of reds and stickys. My red fridges have been dwindling over the past year as I've been drinking rather than cellaring. Probably have only 30 left, the majority being Penfolds St Henri (1988 through to 2004) with a couple of Moss Wood and 707's. Only have 1 Grange left (2002) as well as a McLaren Vale Dry Red Bin 60 (1966) on the bottom shelf.

I'm also into Pinot Noir and Moscato as drinking reds at the moment.

Generally anything served in QF J or F. They are the cellar masters of the skies.

On the ground. Anything. Purely random. Will guzzle anything once.

Bought a few bottles of St Henri today at Costco for $65 and last month a RWT for $135, both of which I find exceptional value!!

Every six months, the Howard Park guy and I have a conversation that ends ups with me spending eye watering dollars on the most awarded wines in OZ ......

Rapidly followed by a conversation with the LOTO ( also known as the Leader of the Opposition, in this house ...... Antonym SWMBO. ;). ) where I insist that in June it is about celebrating only offspring birthday, and in Dec it's about Christmas.

Vino is a passion - cab sav, cab merlot, Chardonnay, the pinots - Gris, Grigio, and Noir, and of course St Henri (sadly no Grange here)

Cellaring is an ambition, consumption is a regular pleasure :p
