Hi,

Will be in Las Vegas and have a 1:30pm flight LAX to HK

Would you fly LAS - LAX day before and stay at hotel in LAX or morning flight from LAS to LAX?

if yes where would you stay at LAX?

Comments suggestions would be appreciated

I would never willingly fly domestic to connect with a same day international flight (in the USA or in Australia), especially where I need to arrive before/around mid-day for the international leg.

I eliminate that stress and fly domestically the day before the international connection. That's just me. In LAX, for a 1.30pm departure, I would stay locally overnight and have a sleep-in.

I'm with Sprucegoose here. It's a 40 odd min flight. I'd definitely take the morning connection. In fact I've done this on more than one occasion.

I would take the morning flight. It's a short flight and LAS is close to the hotels so not a long ride to the airport in he morning.

I do the day before and stay at LAX at either Sheraton or Crowne Plaza. Both are very handy and provide shuttles to and from

You may be protected, but are you okay with flying the international leg on the next flight out (i.e., maybe the next day?) should your domestic leg be very delayed/cancelled, in a worst case scenario? You may be comfortable with taking that chance, as many are.

I didn't see what airline(s) you are flying. That may be relevant.

Maximise your time in LAS. LAX is a hole. I travel between the two regularly with no problems, although the best scenario is when you can avoid LAX altogether by routing via SFO.

Your simple solution to home security. Quickly view what’s happening at home when you're not there, giving you peace of mind.

Simple plug-in installation means you’ll be up and running in no time.

LAX may well be a hole, as is staying at any airport in the world, however in the case of LAX if you don't want to stay "at" the airport you have some great places within 10 mins or so i.e. Crowne Plaza Hotel, Redondo Beach. Right opposite the marinas, close to some great bars and restaurants and some magic walks.

I'd plump for early morning departure from LAS to connect - unless the weather was forecast to be bad that morning. Always have the back up of driving from LAS to LAX... (not that I have done it)

IIRC correctly, last time I drove it took me approx 3 hours to get to within 20 miles of LAX and another 2 hours to get the last bit. When ever possible I always get to my final departure point the previous day and save myself the possibility of stress associated with missed or close connections

That was more or less my thinking as well. I would not be staying at LAX, just passing through.

On my next trip through Los Angeles, I will have 24+ hours to fill in, after driving up from San Diego, and then flying out from LAX the next night. I intend including a meal at each of The Lobster at Santa Monica, which I've been to a couple of times before, and Geoffrey's at Malibu (some mixed reviews, but I want to try it out):

The Lobster ‹ Fresh Seafood at the Historic Santa Monica Pier

Yes, I too would take the early morning from LAS to LAX. Party as long as able in LAS, then can to airport for early am flight to LAX. LAS departures are rarely badly affected by weather, and plenty of later flight options if there is an aircraft tech issue. So risk is low in my opinion.

If the flight LAX-HKG is on a *O carrier (CX?), even with separate tickets I'd plump for a morning flight on AA.

This is due to AA's protection policy with *O.

Ball and chain made the decision, fly up at lunch time the day before, the winning argument was Lobster at the Santa Monica Pier thanks DC3 :)

Now to find a decent hotel...for overnight ..
