What was your shortest flight ?

BNE-OOL on qflink before it was canned.

I have also done this flight but it was a connection to Dubbo.

Back in the Ansett days.

Lindeman Island to Hamilton Island to Shute Harbour airport onto MKY.

Pilot had to drop into HTI to pick up something and then we had to go to Shute Harbour from him to fill up and then to MKY. I was supposed to be a direct flight.

Meal service was lacking but when we landed in Hamilton Island he said we could go and get a drink or something to eat and be back in 15 to 20 mins.

It was one of the Island charter services.

Penang to Langkawi (Malaysian domestic flight) was no more than about 15 minutes.

ROK- GLT 12 mins, the only QF flight that does not include a refreshment.
I was reasonably regular on the BNE/MCY flights - normally operated by a SH6. Time tables as 30 minutes, generally around 20 in air.

One day it was a DH3 and it took all of around 11 minutes takeoff to landing - used 32 ex BNE and landed straight up after crossing Bribie island on MCY .

You win. PER-RTS was the shortest for me. I was a wee little one so I have no idea how long it was. Was just excited to be on a plane at that age (even if it was a puddle jumper).

According to GCMap it's 26 miles.

Although I did a PER-RTS day return on XR back in 1982, the duration of the flights now escapes me. Thirty years and several bottles of red wine tend to have that effect.

I also survived a more recent experience with this mob, who fly JAD-RTS in a scheduled 12 minutes with no inflight service whatsoever! ;)

Not my shortest flight, but fastest was a red-eye PER-MEL in 2:50 with huge tailwinds. I was in J. Not much sleep between climb and descent -- and we had to wait at the QF terminal for 20 minutes when we landed in order for a ramp operator to be on shift to connect our airbridge!

Thats the fastest I've done this as well, big difference to the reverse.

Do stuff-ups count?

About 4 min 30 sec flying EBG-EBG. Cargo door popped open on takeoff, causing immediate circling and landing. By fluke I was videoing the takeoff so have the entire incident on film.

(EBG is El Bagre, an airport in rural Colombia)

Coonabarabran - coonamble or coonamble walgett in Ansett f27 many many yrs ago

I'm too poor to own a signature

Or where the hostie doesn't get out of her seat.

Another example of that was TSV/PMK (Palm Island) 10 minutes in a Dash8 with the only inflight 'catering' an individually wrapped Mentos as you disemarked the aircraft.

It was a more a shuttle service for TSV residents who worked on PMK so they'd fly over in the am then back in the pm. FIFO at its best.

As a stand-alone flight TMW-ARM (60 miles), thanks to a shortage of rental cars in TMW, and without getting off the aircraft BLT-EMD (40 miles). On a jet PEN-LGK.

On a jet San Francisco-Oakland 21 mins gate to gate on a United 727
On a prop Apia- Pago Pago 27 mins with a 13 hour time change, nearer to home Burnie-Devonport on a REX Saab has been done in about 15 mins flying time
Shortest wide body flight Dublin-Shannon B747 22 mins with Aer Lingus

ADL - Maitland (country SA) IIRC it takes around 2 hrs by car.

I can't remember how long the flight was. It was a heck of a flight (40 degree temperature, a reasonable wind, a dirt strip landing strip in an RFDS sardine can.

Guernsey to Jersey - scheduled for 20 minutes. Very likely I've got the card I record the exact times on, but it was about that give or take. Rattly old Trislander and we flew quite low as the thing wasn't pressurised. No aisle - everyone had their own door, more or less and there was no overhead lockers or nothing. We were called individually from the bus to take our assigned seats. Had a grand view out under the wing, but the little triangular windows weren't much chop for admiring it.

Guernsey airport was a couple of desks and a baggage trolley, but Jersey was quite a grand affair.

I've done CBR/SYD or verse vica in under 30 minutes many times. The cabin crew call it the Food Service Olympics as they hand out the bread and water. "Prepare the cabin for landing" the captain will say before they are finished serving the stuff out!

I did that once as a stop on the way to Brisbane. I guess that's my PB for scheduled flights.

Didn't someone here once do a status run using that run or something similar, just piling up status credits on each leg several times a day?

Heathrow to Stansted in a QF 747. Fuel strike at Heathrow, flight was about 8 minutes. On the ground for 2 hours before we could depart for BKK. About 10 years ago now.

Did a JQ flight LST-MEL in 33 minutes (i timed it) which is pretty quick for that flight. We took off to the north, flew straight over the West Gate and straight into MEL. I don't think there was barely a turn involved.

For me, the shortest domestic flight was a SYD-CBR flight on a DJ E170 a few years ago with a gate-to-gate time of 39 minutes (actual flying time was 24 mins). The shortest international flight I had been on was between SIN-KUL.

Ironically this time next week there will be another QF 747 at Stansted, the Olympics charter bringing the team home.
