Card Promotions What is the best credit card for Krisflyer miles?

Only uncapped I can see now is Westpac although rate earn is smaller
Westpac used to be good but at 0.33 miles per dollar, much less that the new 0.55 miles from St George both cards are uncapped so looks like St George still wilns (even after the 33% loss n value)
of course Amex card look good until you see the fees are double :(

Would probably make any 1 for 1 velocity card a better option?
Velocity is starting to look more attractive since they now have international reward flights again.
1 to 1 sounds great but the only uncapped ones i see are Amex - is there a Visa or Master card that does that?

I’ve got the coles MasterCard as my international card. No int fees, 2 flybuys points per dollar (which is 1 velocity).

Thanks for the info, unfortunately for me the fine print is an issue :(

Collect 2 Flybuys points per $1 on eligible purchases up to and including $3,000 in each Statement Period and then collect 1 Flybuys point per $1 thereafter.2

Hmm ok that’s a new one. Potentially has been a recent change (although I’ve not kept a good eye on it to be honest).

Maybe a velocity branded Citi card?

If you take tha ANZ Black into account with the 2:1 velocity transfer and 15 or 20% bonus they offer twice yearly it amounts to .741 KF at 15% bonus or .774 at 20% I think.

And velocity do not expire.

Capped at $5k per month though.

I find the Amex explorer and DJs amex to cover more than enough purchases to use $5k or less with Visa/ Mastercard. I also got approved for Citi Prestige in May much to my surprise as a self funded retiree so good to use priority pass overseas for the next 12 months travelling and 1200000 Kf points to boot.

Re the comment about self funded retiree...I applied for the HSBC offer for Star Alliance Gold. After about 4 weeks back and forth with unending requests for information etc I got turned down. Despite liquid assets of over $3M and real estate and other assets of over $5m. Debt free. Go figure.
Yes it’s very curious dealing with the banks, whilst your working they’re very happy approve credit cards, but when retired and can demonstrate you have assets and funds to support you the’re no longer interested in approving new credit cards. Though they will readily open new savings accounts for you to accept your money.

Having worked in lending, the focus was always on income, not assets... The 5% interest on your $3m bank account should have been enough. ugh.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Outside of sign-up bonuses, in my opinion the best card for earning KF miles is the HSBC card. The redemption rate is $1 spent brings you 8/10ths of a mile for the first $3,000/month spent and then half a mile above $3,000. My old Westpac Altitude card just earns me a half mile per $1 spent when transferring over to my SQ acct. Plus, if you spend $3,000 in the first 90 days of receiving a new HSBC card you are granted KF Gold Status for 12 months, and I am using my new Gold Status to extend my old expiring miles for 12 months, not the six months I was only entitled to do when I was an ordinary KF member. If I spend a minimum of $30k on the card hence per year, I will be given Silver KF Status for 12 months; and for $60,000 per year spent, Gold Status again for a further 12 months. It was great to access the KF Lounge in Changi and Bangkok when flying SQ Economy class with my Gold Status. Also when flying Egypt Air in May between Cairo and Luxor return.

Other than the KF Gold status and there are other comparable credit cards providing better points earning capability and adding the sign-up bonus into the mix will make them lucrative if you are after points ( minus the gold status).

If earning status is your motive then yes HSBC card seems to be a good option.
