What irritates you most while flying?

Puttings things back on topic, one annoying thing about flying is something that happens every 2-3 weeks at 6.45am Melbourne Airport, Qantas Club line on Monday morning.

In the line you will either have 2-3 dedicated check-in people or 5.

Over the last 6 weeks I've noticed that you would get 5 staff maybe 50% of the time and the rest would be a combination of 2-3 people.

This affects the time it takes to get your ticket which has the usual flow on effect of making you either a little late (and having to forego the morning trip to the QP) or having an announcement over the PA asking for people on your flight to go to another counter to be processed quickly.

Last time this happened I was a bit stupid (being 5 more places to go with 2 dedicated staff) and changed line to the other one and we all had to wait a further few more frantic minutes a time ticked away before I had to tell the counter that the line behind me was the 7.30am flight to Sydney and we had to be processed ASAP.

The counter staff quickly jumped to process us through and the CSRep who told us to move lines was told off for not letting them know we were about to board.

This was on the 2nd May 2005.

Well I've finished my rant and now it is time to go back to the hotel and chill out. :)

Regards
Daniel

Umm - tried quickcheck

LOL...on SQ on Sunday Syd-Sin J class I had 3 toothpicks on each tray!!! And their meat is always tougher than QF or CX!!!

Actually I now carry a couple of spares in my bag for my QF flights...so I guess their strategy has worked!

Funny - I have always found the food and wine on SQ a lot better than anything offered by QF. Although last month on a return trip to Singapore, the steaks in J class on QF5 and QF6 were the best I've ever had on Qantas - hot, juicy, tender and beautifully cooked.

I found the annoucements on QF 5 and 6 very irritating. The PA system sounded like it was turned up to 11 and every announcement was made three times (English, German and Spanish) so it was excruciating.

I have to say that I have found FAQ food on QF better than SQ over the years (I mostly go for the steak), although I like BTC in First on SQ (lobster). Wines seem to depend. I like having a drop of French red on SQ. QF seems a mixed bag. I have learned ask if they have something else in stock than what they offer and often there is a stray nice Cab Sav sitting there as make up stock, end of line, but not offered as it's not on the me and u.

*Bump* (Let's see if we can't have a thread race as well :p )

People in the QP business centres who set their laptop up in a cubicle, completely ignoring the Internet PC that already installed in the same cubicle. :x

Go to another empty spot and let me use it!! grrr...

I agree with most of these. Putting the seat forward during meals (in economy) can is sometimes difficult. For example, if I'm eating and the person in front is skipping a meal with the seat back, there's not much that person can do. I just put up with this as a penalty of economy.

One that I don't think has been mentioned yet - the kid behind wants to kick the back of my seat all through the flight. Why can't the plane toe a caboose for kids?

My worst - I've paid for business so I can sleep, get off the plane in Europe and go straight to the office. Then I find a baby in a nearby seat who cries most of the way. Once I moved to economy because of this - business was full, but there was room in economy to lie down on 4 seats. I moved back for the meals only.

Most of mine have been mentioned but he's a few that may not have.

1. PAX who would rather take several items on as hand luggage (taking all the overhead space for your item) then check them in. You all know who you are!!!

2. PAX who get up as soon as they can after landing and push there way to the front of the plane. (We'll all get off eventually)

3. Empty business class seats (say no more) or QF staff in them.

4. Waiting 30 mins for luggage or everyone elses bags coming out first and yours with the priority tag coming out last.

5. Checking in early to get a decent seat like an emergency exit isle and then getting on the plane only to find out that your seat is the one behind it. Then the guy who does get the seat saying how lucky he is that he jagged that seat.

6. Taxi-ing to BNE (especially in SYD getting to the outer runway)

7. Being crammed into a window seat and looking up to see that the first 4 rows in economy are empty.

8. Moving to another empty seat as the doors are being closed then told to move back and wait until airbourne, then going to move only to realise that someone else beat you too it.

Plenty more but don't want to sound like a whinger.

Here's another one I just thought of. I flew QF economy from HK to Sydney last week. My video broke down, so I pressed the button to summon a stewardess, and the light above the seat came on. Half an hour later I had no response, so I found a girl whoe rebooted my system. It still didn't work so I pushed the button again. Still no response for 20 minutes, so again I went hunting (this time the video worked). I noticed that two other lights had been on for some hours and ignored.

Later, there was an announcement to advise a steward if we wanted duty free. Again I pushed the button, and received no response. Eventually I got up and found someone, and was told duty free had just closed.

This is the first time I've flown economy for a long time (I was paying) - perhaps I'm spoilt. However, what's the point of these buttons if they're ignored? Has anyone else experienced this?

 Sorry Mr James, you are not allowed to have your call light on during take off, landing, whilst the seat belt sign is illuminated, or whilst we are in the air. We will make an announcement when we arrive at the terminal, that you can now use the call button.

If me or any of our crew can be of any further assistance during your flight, please feel free to use your call button when we have arrived at our destination.

Reggie,

Thanks - that all makes sense - silly of me. Tomorrow I fly to Samoa with Virgin. I'll see if they have the same policy.

Yes - but to make matters worse half the time a FA would come and switch it off without asking what we wanted - just kept walking. This happened three times!

I did complain to Qantas and I got an apology, and a $150 flight gift voucher. They said they would address the issue.

Just wanted to underline and make bold this one especially..... It is just plain rude and inconsiderate. These are generally the people that think they are top notch and that the entire bay above that seat belongs to them. They are also the same people that have to have their luggage scanned 3-4 times because they have crammed so much into their "carry on".
They are the people that think they are sooo much busier than the rest of us and can not possibly wait for their bags... then they are the same people that you see standing out the front waiting for their ride well after you have picked up your bag, got your rental car and driving off....

Brings a smile to my face, but still ummmm annoys me.

I guess you could say that one gets my 2 points for eviction during flight!!
