I forgot to get a photo of the Wrigley family super yacht moored opposite the restaurant. My seatmate had staff that had nothing better than looking up the registration.

Here’s one I prepared earlier…

Cliveden Bar, Pullman East Melbourne - late lunch from their all day menu. It was very noisy with a group of workers, staff allowed us to sit in the quiet of the restaurant- hence the tablecloth.

Started with jackfruit taco - 7/10

Followed by Birra sandwich with vegan chilli corn carne - 8/10. The spicy sauce/dip was a standout for me …

Will definitely try this place again ..

Dumpling Social, CBR.

Newly refurbished place in CBR. Used to be a dumpling place earlier too.

Tried the sautĆ©ed green beans with vege floss - a bit salty my liking, but overall the dish was likable .. Will try again, but with a side of rice or something to balance the flavours …

The restaurant had a poster that captures my thoughts and sentiments 🤣

Was that the regular meal or special meal?

Looks decent!
Special meal - Hindu Veg … samosas have been fairly consistent ā€œsnackā€ option for this meal type … and they taste delicious too. I usually have samosas by themselves, but the addition of chickpea curry does add a different texture to the dish .. thoroughly enjoyed it. šŸ¤˜šŸ¤“

That Kerala veg curry at a 5 out of 10 hits close to home because I ordered the same thing at a spot near Brick Lane and walked away thinking the coconut was too heavy and the heat never showed up, while my mate's Chettinad chicken had me jealous the whole meal. The Pani Puri sounds like the real win at 8, since getting the crisp shell and the tangy water right is harder than it looks. What I noticed in kitchens that nail Chettinad is the same thing I read about commercial meat operations, here's what i used to understand it, where marination time and temperature control decide how deep the spices go into the meat, and that is why some places taste flat while others sing. Stick to the starters and the chicken next time and skip the veg curry.

I've had similar experiences where the veg dish just doesn't hit the same as the meat options, but when it's done right it can be the best thing on the table.

UL607 SYD-CMB Special meal requests.

AVML 1 (dinner as SYD time, post take off). Ok meal … the veg option from the menu seemed more tastier than what was given as special meal. The salad (cucumber and pineapple salsa with chilli) was good and had a nice chilli kick to it.

IMG_7521.jpeg

Highlight was the gulab jamuns šŸ˜ with pistachios

IMG_7522.jpeg

AVML 2 (dinner as per CMB time, prior landing). The veg option from the menu was pesto pasta, so special meal wins this round. Albeit no dessert, only Kit Kat.

SYD QF F Lounge fare.

Fire alarms went off during lunch service. Fireys attended and the grill was turned off for quite some time. Having had a salad sandwich from Jolimont Tourist Centre prior boarding Murrays express to SYD, I wasn’t too hungry anyways. So the grill turned off didn’t affect me in anyways.

So, I chose a salad and a dessert.

Salad was ā€œSalad of cauliflower, green beans, celery and pine nuts with lemon miso dressing (VG)ā€ - what.a.dish! šŸ˜ Delish. IMHO, This salad is next best only to Turkish eggs with Aleppo chilli (hold the eggs). The lemon strewn thru the salad tastes like lemon pickles (the Indian variety). I had a chat with one of the waitstaff of Nepalese origin and she instantly recognised and agreed what I meant. She felt the same when they tasted the dishes as part of the menu launch.

Will definitely have again.

IMG_7512.jpeg

Dessert was ā€œFresh strawberry and mascarpone tart with almonds and strawberry sorbet (V)ā€.

Very well made. I was busy chatting with the waitstaff about the lemon pickle - the sorbet started to melt (as those with keen eyes can notice from the picture). There was very little almond in the dish. So little that one would be excused if one were to ask where’s the almond in this .. the dish overall tastes really good. I’d have it again.
