What cheeses me off

So you want to have access to the poles, wires and transmission equipment, but don't want to pay the fee........
You mean the system that is struggling to provide services due to lack of maintenance and upgrades, has regular brown or black outs every summer, which is why we got batteries? We also paid to install a smart metre so they dont have to employ someone to come onto our property to read the meter so what about the wage savings in that?

i’ve just booked a modern hotel in Saudi Arabia. Every room is listed as “smoking".
I would find a different hotel. Ive been in chinese non smoking rooms and they were disgusting, we threw away our clothes after that stay as the smoke stench was so bad

Guess I was lucky with my recent stays over the past week. Not a single smell of smoke throughout!

No issues with the power supply here or brown or black outs. Smart meter was installed free for us as well.

But yes I agree the whole energy system is a joke, made worse by the proposed $20 BILLION of transmission lines that are going to be built to enable more green power..

Added to that, by 1 July 2026, we will likely be paying to feed power back into the grid as the current feed in tariff is around 0.04 cents so basically worthless.

That $20 Billion + will be passed on in supply charges as people (some) draw less energy from the grid.

When we build a new house in a more rural area in the next 10 years, we will be 100% off grid to avoid this mess.

What is Poland like for smoking? We will be there in 3 weeks and I assume that unfortunately it will be like southern France - smokers everywhere.

We booked a non smoking room at the Novotel in CDG. We opened the door and fa_ smell was disgusting. We didn't even go into the room but straight back downstairs and insisted on getting what we'd booked.

IME hotels that are pet friendly are clearly labelled as such, so very simple to avoid booking. And also it's usually only certain rooms, so when booking add a note that you have allergies to get a non pet room.

Nothing is worse imo than a room where someone has smoked - short of removing all soft furnishings (carpets, curtains, mattress, chairs) there is zero way to remove that nicotine stench. And smoking is unfortunately more common in UK and Europe than here.
I didn't find that they advertised they were dog friendly when you were just googling hotels

Im pedantic about avoiding showers over tubs, so religiously read all room details.

There are pet filters on most sites these days, so once you have a short list you can do same query with that filter selected and then exclude those. For example on

Certainly not as bad as Greece, Macedonia & Albania when we were last month. From our experience I guess similar to Germany as far as noticing it while travelling around

WCMO today? People who provide you a specific timeslot for scheduling a work meeting that is well out of your "normal" working day, and then don't have the decency to RSVP, let alone show up.

Working in a "global" role, I don't mind fitting in with people and doing meetings outside of my normal day, but surely it's not too much to ask for people to have a modicum of respect for the folks being inconvenienced?? 😤

WCMO today is people seated down the back putting their carry-on bags above seats up front such that when those seated up front arrive they have to head back to find space then go against the boarding flow to get back to their seats.

And people putting multiple bags in overhead bins who aren't in exit row.

But mostly it's the huge guy in the middle seat next to me who should have been forced to buy a comfort seat as he doesn't wholly fit in the seat forcing me to lean out into the aisle and causing me back pain as I can't sit up straight.

ETA - never been so happy to stand up on arrival. My back is killing me.

For a while, there were a bunch of carriers who, on check in, would insist on attaching some sort of tag to your bag which says this can go up into the overhead compartment and any non-tagged bag had to go under your seat. I think even Qantas was on board (pun intended) with the idea for a bit. I'm not sure how well that went for all of those carriers; I can't imagine it was effective at all.

One could conceive a similar idea except it is only given to Business Class passengers (i.e. those seated in Business Class). So any non-tagged bags are questioned, removed and/or moved. Of course, it doesn't quite work if you get upgraded at the last minute (and thus need to source said tags, if you know what they are); also, people might be able to recycle the tags (i.e. attach them or leave them attached to your bag, even if you aren't travelling in Business). And I don't know if your complaint relates to an airline that doesn't have Business (i.e. all Economy), because then this tagging system would not work, of course, but yes some idiots still stash their stuff at the front before heading to the back.

With all the hubbub about bag safety and possible theft, you'd think people wouldn't be so comfortable with the idea of wilfully (cf. not wilfully, like when the overheads are genuinely full) putting a lot of distance between them and their overhead luggage. Especially if it is a light bag, the benefit isn't even considerable.

I have seen one incident where someone with a rather light backpack stashed it in row 2 and then proceeded to keep walking much further down. A FA actually saw this, removed the bag, carried and called out the inconsiderate oaf, telling him that only Business Class bags can go up there. Thankfully it did not get more confronting than that.
And people putting multiple bags in overhead bins who aren't in exit row.
This is where I'd say that anyone in the exit row has free reign to remove any bag not belonging to someone also sitting in exit row. While putting a random bag in the Business Class section is just rude, doing so in an exit row can be argued to impede the ability to enforce a safety requirement.

Related, but WCMO is pax with roller luggage who do not place it on its side in the overhead compartment. They place it so that it lays out long, which I get is the old fashioned way it had to be placed, but if it could go on its side, then why not do it (and the decision of will it fit is often obvious). Then again, what also CMO is aircraft manufacturers who supposedly make (and supposedly test?) overheads that can apparently fit naturally a piece of regulation cabin baggage on its (shortest) side in the overhead. The problem is that such placement at times was only possible by putting in the baggage flat on its longer side and then rotating it in place. If you try to place the baggage in on its short side straight away, the top of your bag gets caught (worse with wheels) on the ceiling as you try to push it in. Prima facie failure of practical design.
