What cheeses me off

Qantas

MMB shows 5A my boarding pass 5F and when I go to change seats nothing but 2F free. And i checked in the minute it opened.
I will never understand this - seems to happen quite often with QF - in 25yrs flying SQ I have never had seat changed unless equip change - I don’t get it

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

My BA seat changed but that was an aircraft change (A380 replaced with a smaller 777) but at least an equivalent seat.

I will now need to go to the airport earlier than planned and see if check-in agent can get me back into a window.

Surely if the seat is broken I could have been advised earlier and offered another window seat?

When you have more than one bank card, either visa/mastercard, debit or credit, and you think you have the pin down pat, ie, you know it off by hard, then "declined invalid pin contact bank"...
Oops, sorry, try another card.
Eftpos card, with no visa or mastercard insignia, that has to be entered at the bottom of the eftpos reader.
Then have to pick savings/cheque, press savings, then (do you think I remember the pin #), nak.

I'm not sure how they could advise earlier? It's not like planes are allocated weeks or even days ahead of time. Also, if all other window seats are preallocated then there's nothing else to offer.

I had a flight with AA where I pre-selected 1A, checked in and BP had 1A, I boarded and had 1A ........ then after sitting in it for 10 minutes I was told there was no way I could possibly have that as it was reserved for the pilot to rest it. I wasn't happy, but what can you do? I got up and moved across the aisle to the next seat which was still free. C'est la vie.

But we dont know why i lost my seat.

If its a case of someone else taking it, well they can go take the coughpy middle seat because I locked that one in 9 months ago.

There were other A and K seats at T-80 so others grabbed windows much later than me, move one of those lower status pax to the middle.

Again, what the seat map shows at T-80 doesn't mean it'll be the same at T-24; plane configs and/or frame swaps happen.

I suspect you'll never find out (if the seat is not broken and someone else is in there), the term acceptance comes to mind .....

There has not been an aircraft swap, QF only fly dreamliners on the route and they all have same layout. I want an explanation.

If I am not mistaken if I pay for a $1000 purchase with my debit card the bank makes between 1.99%-3.99% transaction fee?

If I withdraw $1000 cash and pay for the purchase the bank makes nothing?

How did we become so stupid feeding this greed? Convenience? Stupid excuse to feed our stupidity. It's so blatantly obvious what we need to do and no it's not to become more lazy.

As you have noted the self interest of the Banks is the key. They are making the ability to access cash as difficult as possible (almost no ATM's or branches) but ask for a credit or debit card and "no worries". That is how they serve the interests of the suckers customers. Not to mention all the data they accumulate on the customers from tracking every transaction, which cannot be achieved with cash.

Even with all the difficulties the banks place in front of us, we should not be playing this game. We should be going out of our way using cash.

It could be a broken seat and the 5A is there in case another aircraft gets assigned and you get reassigned 5A. I saw something similar when my QF11 A380 was swapped out for a B787. I had the new and old seats showing in MMB.

Apart from that, since being WP (for many years), it don’t recall ever having a different seat allocated at checkin.

Although last week, had the reverse. PER-SYD equipment change from A332 to B738. We had selected 2K and 4K months ago but weren’t reallocated as far as we could tell as MMB was still showing 2K/4K (which don’t exist on a QF 737) and only giving “Window/Aisle” seat selection! Took a few calls to get that sorted. I’ve put it down to JQ (it was one booking JQ DPS-PER / QF PER-SYD and only noticed the last minute equipment change after checking in for JQ….).

I told the story before - at least twice when I was flying QF international. I got bumped at check in by the CEO of rugby Australia.

that was a few years ago, but I guess the same thing happens today - bumped by chaairmans lounge, etc.

I selected my window seat 5A on tomorrows flight over 6 months ago and it was still showing as such last night. Check in just opened and I've been moved to a sucky 5F (no window and sleeping next to some random i.e. wont get any sleep looking at a stranger all flight) and the only other seat available is a worse 2F next to bassinette.

Which number do I call to complain? I want to know what entitled person who didn't plan ahead stole my seat (it was a single so cant be a couple claiming they need to sit together)

Weirdly when I go to MMB it still shows I have 5A

@TheInsider would it be due to a broken seat? And if so as a platinum surely I should be given another window ahead of a lower status pax?
We just had something similar, flying Syd - Akl on Sat morning (QF3 787, booked several months on points). I was in 4K and MrsK in 3K so she was up against the window.

When I did the online check in I noticed she had been assigned to 1K, and didn't worry too much as she was still up against the window, and I told her she was 'special' being in row 1. When we checked in at Canberra for the first leg, the staff member mentioned she had been moved due to the seat being unserviceable - fair enough.

When we boarded at Sydney, there was someone in 3K, and the seat looked ok. All I can think of, is that person was going through to New York (and from what I heard she was) and they moved MrsK to stay in the same seat. No issue to though with the seat or the flight for MrsK - an hour or so in the 1st Lounge and PDB's had her in holiday mode.

IIRC, depending on the merchant, ban fees on debit card purchases are much lower than that. AFF'ers who are merchants would be able to say for sure. For credit cards though, who do you think pays for all of the vloggers travelling the world in first class? Or indeed lots of AFF'ers? Who pays for the credit card sign up bonuses? Hmm ..
Also with cash, the banks often do charge for handling cash, so they do get a take there (and if the banks don't take it security companies will instead, as lots of businesses do pay either for additional security or leakage of cash to theft.)

I was under the impression that EFTPOS was a low cost payment method, but it seems that the sharks still charge 1.2% for those who can't negotiate something better ..

Someone ‘important’ turns up pays the last minute premium and/or wants(gets) the seat.
QF will point out the small print on the ticket that they are not obliged to fly you in the seat you chose.
Presumably with QF as most ‘important’ types live here its likely to happen from here more often than with an SQ.
Be thankful its not the J -> Y gradient
OTT - I now only pay for J as think redemptions will be first to go in the age of revenge travel
