Westpac Singapore KrisFlyer Credit Card

Called up Westpac, the same thing happened to me where they are offering to reduce the fee to $125 and then credit $125 annual fee back from last year. Effectively fee free.

I will not cancel and rejoin only because it could damage my credit rating, as well probably having new cc numbers and cards.

I received this offer as well. Is this a good deal? I already have a 1. Wizard MC 2. Amex Plat Card 3. Diners and 4. Citibank Plat Visa:?::confused:
So are you using your Diners-although I still have it as fee free I am no longer using it as reward points aren't posting.
I also have Citi Plat Visa but not fee free so I am strongly considering the Krisflyer Card-this offer looks like it is time to move.Does any one know if a time limit on it?
OK answered my own question by using the link-9th June is the end date.

Wow, this is impressive. How did you justify waiving the whole fee rather than 50% off as per their current promotion? :?:

I am going to be applying for this card tomorrow (have to do it in branch as I am on a 457) is it going to be possible to get that 20k offer that was posted earlier or is that for renewals?

I figure if I print off that web page I will be ok?

Easy, just tell them you are cancelling the card because of annual fee. They will put you into those Credit Card retention department where they will make that offer. But of course, you must be prepared to cancel the card though, and I certainly was.

So I've spoken to two Westpac reps over the phone and they've said no to waiving the fee.

The first one said they don't have the power and suggest I goto the bank and ask, and the second just said because this was a promotion can't waive blah blah.

I will go to the bank and ask, but if all else fails, I'll join, claim my 20k, then ask to waive or I walk.

The options in the earlier posts were for existing card-holders with a choice of waiving fee or rejoining.

I assume you are new, want 20,000 points and no fee?

As to walking. I don't know what you other cards have, but this card with its VISA earn of 1 (and Amex at 1.5) and transfer to SQ at 1:1 is hard to beat. SQ Saver J or *A redemptions are for me much better value than QFF.

I certainly put all my VISA tx on it now rather than my free for life Citibank earning (apart from JB Hi fi which has good extra points) at 1.0 , but transferring at less than one.

I agree it's one of the best earning cards. The only other card would be the citibank emirate card which offers the same earn ration (perhaps even better as it relies on Mastercard, which is more acceptable and less of a surcharge typically).

The walking bit is more an (empty) thread to the Westpac staff. I do realise it's a very good card.

Quite pleased, I have been approved for the plat card today which is great news.

Quick question and I think I know the answer, but do you get two cards, one Amex and one Visa?

I assume you get both as I have not been given a choice for which one I would like so yeah....

You get both.
A point per dollar Visa card
plus a 1.5 point per dollar American Express card.
Unlike the American Express Ultimate for QF points the WESTPAC branded cards can be put into credit so if your credit limit is modest you can load this Kris points card up at any Westpac branch instantly by cashing a cheque at their counter.

Sweet, as I read it you would only ever use the Visa card when the AmEx isnt accepted somewhere because of the 1.5pts per $1 spend.

If you are paying a surcharge say to the Australian Taxation Office for a personal tax bill you would think "Do I go for points at 65 cents per point on VISA or do I go 83.3 cents per point on the American Express version and run up your points quicker ?"
Bills with no surcharge like the supermarket it is AMEX for sure.

Right ok, gotcha, so everyday stuff where there isnt a surcharge, AMEX, where there is go visa. Excellent, thanks for your help.

Even when there is a surcharge on the Amex, if the points you earn outweigh the surcharge, then I still go for the Amex! I mean, I used to do it when the introductory 3 points per $ was being offered, not anymore alas!

Aah, those good days.

Indeed. The Tax Dept is one where I did pay the surchage as the extra 0.5 point to me is worth more than the additional surchage.

In using cards you often have to doa quick mental calculation to decide what is best.

ie I use my Citibank (free for life) VISA at JB Hifi despite it transferring at less than one because you currently gain 4 points per dollar there. Amex has a surcharge and no bonus. KF VISA no surcharge , but no extra points eiher.

And just to keep you on your toes for example does one go for:

a/ Fuel at Caltex with 4 cent/l discount voucher
or b/ Fuel at BP with bonus 1.5 points if paid with Amex issued Amex?
(ie what is a MR point worth to you?)

Received this in the post, as well as being referred the below link from a friend,

The Westpac SQ platinum CC ... 20K KF sign up bonus, and first year annual fee is halved. so $125 for 20K KF points is a good deal IMO, almost enough points to redeem a one way SYD-SIN in economy. Apply and be approved by 9 June.

Singapore Airlines - Let Your Krisflyer Miles Soar

Got this in the paper a couple of days ago, has come at the exact right time for me as I have a 20K expenditure coming up and they only take Visa and my ANZ Visa has of course been devalued by 50% so looking for a substitute. Was considering the Citibank Business Gold but with the bonus this looks very attractive.

Only concern with this vs. a Qantas card would be using the points within 3 years but I fly to NZ a fair bit and undersatnd I cam apply SQ points to NZ and only 25K vs 36K QF spend. Looks like a fairly easy choice to me! Have I done my sums right?

SQ Redemptions and *A Awards via SQ are all on:

Auastralia and NZ are both in South west Pacific = 2k In economy and 35K in Business (if avalable).

So with 20K sign on and 20K from your transaction you will have 40K, enough for a return business to NZ.
also note that uou can for the same points cost go to anywhere else in the South west Pacic, though note that with air New Zealnd that they are removing Business Class from some flights now.

Thanks, not that hard a choice really, get 1/4 of the way to a QF flight with ANZ Visa (10K/36K required) or 1 1/2 Air NZ flights (or 1 Business) with points to spare. Hmm, which way to go.
