Wearing Thongs in Business - does it affect how you are served?

I think that most people from countries that we would consider to be less well off than Australia tend to dress better than a lot of Aussies. Men will often wear slacks with dress shoes and a long sleeved shirt without a tie & women will wear smart casual clothes. Their attire is something you would expect someone to wear to church.

IMHO Thongs (the footwear variety) belong at the beach. It seems that opinion is no longer the norm with many people so I'll just have to go along with that.

I have to agree but I'm not the style police. I don't like seeing thongs in the workplace either. On our casual Fridays where I used to work many women used to get away with it but no men ever tried it on to my knowledge. Thongs hardly comply with any OH&S regulations but then neither do a lot of women's shoes anyway.

Do you actually have to wear any footwear on a plane? What if you showed up in bare feet? I'm sure it's happened.

When I was younger I remember going up to a first class check in desk at Changi when looking a bit scruffy and carrying a rucksack (I was definitely looking like a backpacker) and being politely told that economy check-in was further down the hall. I did enjoy the grovelling when I produced my F ticket and PPS card.

Equally I remember some of the best ever service when upgraded to F on BA on the way back from a skiing trip, unshaven, lips crusty with blood after an accident and not looking the part at all.

Re: Virgin Australia Business Class Catering - Service, Meal times, Menus

I've tried to bite my tongue.

But honestly, do you people not have anything better to do?

Who gives a toss what people what people wear as long as they're well behaved and their personal hygiene isn't questionable.

I fly in what's comfortable for me, and hope others do the same. It makes for substantially less tension on the flight.

For me thongs on a plane are reserved for schoolies flying to the Gold Coast.

Have some pride in yourself and dress appropriately, I for one don't want to see or smell your feet, if I did I would go to the beach.

This thread got me excited, until I realised it was the footwear variety....

Talk about anti climax.

I regulate between J and Y, behaviour will always direct how you are treated..... as they say respect is commanded not demanded. I have met tossers wearing all sorts of clothing

What you consider "appropriate" might be completely different to someone else. And how are thongs any different to some nice strappy sandals? You can still see the feet, yet one is considered classy, and the other bogan... there are some ridiculous stereotypes around here.

Spend 5 weeks at a time wearing laced up steel toe capped boots and you will be screaming for thongs!

Personally I don't wear them as I find them uncomfortable and I prefer the safe feeling of my feet being enclosed but so long as their feet are clean and they don't have gorilla toe nails I have no issue with people wearing thongs!

Wearing Thongs in Business - does it affect how you are served?

Thongs, G-strings, in fact any type of underwear should not be allowed in business class.....it certainly restricts movement in the lav's with the QF mile high hosties

This isn't really about standards of dress. Thongs are a liability in the even of an accident. Someone who is a frequent flyer really should dress appropriately for safety.

Yes I've worn thongs on board and even changed into my faded, old yard shirt for my flight home last night.

Is it Friday already? We haven't had an [-]argument[/-] thread about dress code in J in aaaaages!

There are three types of people on AFF

Those who you can wear what you want in J
Those who think there is a dress code
Those are banging their heads against the table wondering why this is being dragged up again???????

Hang on were do I fit? I don't believe in a dress code. I do think you can wear whatever you want but you should also modify your desires if it's not safe. (Please no one ask what footwear I wear to mow the lawn ;))

Maybe in the don't care group.

I often fly F class on long haul and wear thongs if its summer
I may get off and be in winter attire at the other end
It's my ticket I have paid for soy choice of dress!
I don't get to choose the PJ's colour they give me in J of F

I usually dont worry about thongs, as a nudist, they make me look strange
