Hi there

The WA Gov. has suddenly decided to introduce daylight saving from Dec 3.

For those heading west, check your flights or you could be late for that meeting;)

Cheers

Some "quick fix" changes from Qantas:

About Qantas - Newsroom

Qantas Services in Western Australia

Latest News
Perth, 23 November 2006

Qantas said today it would revise its schedules to accommodate the trial of daylight saving in Western Australia from 3 December, 2006.

Qantas Regional General Manager Western Australia Ian Gay, said the schedule changes would have only a minimal impact on customers.

"Qantas is already in the process of adjusting its schedules and will be making the revised flight departure and arrival times available at qantas.com over the next few days," Mr Gay said.

He said as a result of the introduction of daylight saving:

* services from other Australian states will depart as per current schedules but arrive in Western Australia one hour later.
* all Qantas domestic departures from Western Australia to other states will depart one hour later, but arrive at their destinations as per current schedules;
* there would be no change to departure and arrival times for Qantas and QantasLink services within Western Australia; and
* Qantas international services would depart Perth one hour later than the current schedule, while international services would arrive in Perth one hour later.

The following exceptions apply:

* QF590 Perth-Adelaide - no change to departure time; arrival one hour earlier
* QF480 Perth-Melbourne - no change to departure time; arrival one hour earlier
* QF574 Perth-Sydney - no change to departure time; arrival one hour earlier
* QF718 Perth-Canberra - departure 1 hour 15 minutes later; arrival 15 minutes later
* QF587 Adelaide-Perth - departure one hour earlier; no change to arrival time.

Missed connections from the East:?: :?: :?:

eg : If you have booked Melbourne-Port Hedland on QF485/1812 which until today's announcement had a 0910/1000 connection in PER, you now have a 1010/1520 connection as the arrival misses 1812 by 10 mins:oops:

oh well 5hrs in the QP:D

Now only 20 yrs and 2 hrs behind again:!:

Fantastic that they have finally caught up with the rest of society.

I was due to arrive SYD-PER at 14:15 on 27th December 06 and depart PER-SIN at 15:30. Now I arrive at 15:15 and depart at 16:30.

I was also due to return SIN-PER at 00:55 and now that flight returns at 01:55. It now means I only have to wait 4 hours, instead of 5 hours, for my 05:50 PER-SYD flight and I get to SYD 1 hour earlier. I wonder if domestic QP is open at that late hour or do I have to bring my own Crown Lager, Singha, Tiger?

Thank you.

Do they provide a shuttle between terminals in PER?

Not me! That is a QF sanctioned connection.

I will have a few spare hours in the Skyview Lounge in SIN though. ;)

There is a bus - which you have to pay a few dollars for (or several dollars more to take a cab between terminals).

Actually the transfer is at no cost to QF-QF PAX:
A complimentary shuttle bus service is available to Qantas passengers (includes codeshare flight passengers) for transfers between Terminals 1 and 2.
A bus ticket is required, that can be collected from the sales desk in either Terminal. All other connections, including Qantas to and from any other carrier, incur a charge of A$7.00 that is payable to the bus driver.
Also, I was aware of no issue with the MCT; I was just envisaging boarding commencing before you even get through immigration.

Thanks serfty. Earlier this year when I looked into it I would have been doing QF -> other airline and other airline -> QF, which would be charged :(

Why suddenly? Can't those people think a year ahead???? And why do Qantas had to agreed to this stupid idea in the first place???? Is this country been run by a dictator now that people had no say anymore?????

Qantas said today it would revise its schedules to accommodate the trial of daylight saving in Western Australia from 3 December, 2006.

Yes, at who's cost???? Us the low end family had very limited income, who only just afford flying on very low fares. We are effected deeply by this changes and what do Qantas offer to us? 2 options, take it or leave it. They will refund us in full (great, but will not accomodate the price changes happened today, despite we paid in cash to Qantas over a month ago ~ Shame on you!!!!). Despite of we are loosing our money on the Denpasar to Jakarta domestic flight (again only 3 "cheap" non refundable tickets thanks to 1 hour delay on arrival) which means we will loose all money paid does not matter to them, plus now we have to pay another 3 ticket plus extra overnight cost in Denpasar is again that is none of Qantas business. Qantas just had to comply with stupid idea to start with!!!!! Is not that sad?

The fact that this changes depressed me for 3 days now, that does not matter either.

Umm, Qantas hasn't agreed to anything, Qantas has merely adjusted schedules to reflect the reality of the decision by the government of Western Australia to introduce daylight saving in that state. It would be pretty silly for Qantas to state that planes would arrive and depart at a certain time if that was physically impossible, wouldn't it?

And what would you suggest Qantas do? Tell the WA government that they think it is a bad idea, and they aren't going to go along with it?

Again, nothing to do with Qantas. Qantas set the schedules based on WA being eight hours ahead of UTC, with the NT being 9.5 hours ahead, QLD being 10 hours ahead, SA (and Broken Hill) being 10.5 hours ahead and NSW, Vic and Tas being 11 hours ahead of UTC.

WA has changed this (note Western Australia, NOTQantas), with WA now being 9 hours ahead of UTC, with the rest of Australia remaining the same.

So your rant against Qantas is totally without foundation - it was not Qantas who made the decision, but the government of the sovereign state of Western Australia. It is the government of Western Australia which decides what will happen, and private companies have to work around this.

That will be back again to my first question is not it? Why people does not think a year ahead. I believe that was what NZ government did when they first doing their day light saving, not today and now.

Let say, Qantas does not agree to it, why do they have to revise their schedule now, don't they have people that lobby government on what implication this might brought on to their customers? Honestly, does Qantas and other business had no say on this matter?

And what would you suggest Qantas do? Tell the WA government that they think it is a bad idea, and they aren't going to go along with it?

Look at my statement above. Do Qantas been forced to do it? Or Qantas and other businesses been given the chance to say something about this?

I am sorry Dave, I find it hard to believe that government just make their decision without any input from other people related to the matter. It will only NOT Qantas's fault if this decision made without prior consultation with Qantas is not it?

I understand the need to have daylight saving etc, but my question again can they actually include us little people in their mind when making such a decision?

It had been over 5 yrs since we deligently saving for this trip. It is just because I am a Mrs.Nobody. than this should be emposed to us? Had Qantas actually think of this possibility before revising their schedule?

Sorry Zulaiha, you are ranting again. This was a government decision, it is the government you need to be ranting against (and indeed, you ARE ranting), NOT Qantas.

It is the government that decides what will happen WRT time zones, and the rest of the community - including companies like Qantas - need to react accordingly.

I agree, it would have been good if this had been decided a year or so ago, but the fact remains that it wasn't. Blame the government for that, NOT Qantas. All Qantas have done is look at the situation and react as they felt was appropriate. If you have any cause for complaint, it is with the WA government (although you won't get much sympathy, this decision should have been made decades ago).

Dave

I am sorry Dave for ranting this way. I really am frustrated with the fact I still can't make any decision thus so far.

I understand that my rant is more appropriate to the Government, it was just a curious mind of mine that tells me it is impossible that government can make such stupid decision without any consultations.

Yes, I submitted this query to the WA government too and awaiting to see what they say about this.
