The announcement will be interesting on July 26th.

I think VB has found someone who suggested Australia Blue in the competition.

I can't imagine them making an announcement like 'The winner is...Steve from Marketing!'

Aaaah, but who knows if I'm right or not :)

Another thread claims that "Virgin Pacific" will be the winning moniker. Only 12 days to go!

Well not really. It's not unknown for an organisation to pre-emptively register names, web sites etc well in advance of the business launch just to ensure that they have it covered. In fact, I'd be surprised if they haven't registered other names (perhaps in the name of other related entities).

That's not to say that Australia Blue won't end up being the name - I just don't think it's a lay down misere.

I wonder if at the time Australia Blue was registered, it may have been the intention to call it that. If they have successfully convinced SQ to allow rights to the Virgin name since then, maybe it was back to the drawing board.

And maybe adding Australia Blue to the list was designed to throw us off track...these guys sure are shifty...

My faith in Virgin Pacific is growing anew. :p

...the implication being the "naming the airline" competition is just a publicity / marketing stunt as the name already had been decided prior to the competition commencing!!:shock:
Airlines would not lead on customers like this would they?

Seems like the winner is V Australia Airlines. (as just heard on the radio, actually not sure if it included the word Airlines as the short listed name did)

No news on the Virgin Blue site as yet.

V Energy drink

Also if I was an airline I wouldn't be going with Australia in the name
- aka Jetstar

A red tail -- are they kidding themselves

I do like the Australian flag on the plane (aka Silverjet paintjob)

With their launch 773 aircraft to be named Didgeree Blue

Just needs a quokka / wallaby / bilby on the tail too....

Looks like Ansett in Red...

LOL Um it doesn't look like Qantas at all.... cough

V Australia?? hmmmm.... 777's - I've already whinged about that haha so won't start again :( but I really hope they do something cool with them!

It said on the news that Virgin aren't allowed to use the word 'VIRGIN' BUT also are not allowed to use the word 'BLUE' either! - because some American airline threatened to sue them! - wonder if they told the compeition entrants this....

I feel a bit sorry for DJ with all the restrictions they face creating a family of airlines that feels like a family. Hope it works out for them and they get some positive press, QF is dominating at the moment.

Congratulations to Virgin Blue / V-Australia on the announcement.

Starting a long-haul airline is a massive investment. The travelling public should consider itself lucky that another airline is getting into this market - we desperately need some competition on the trans-pacific route and this should deliver it. :D

V-jets, eh? Wonder if they'll get Travolta's V-jet changed.

Interesting they only had 5942 entries. Not exactly a flood.

Can someone tell Virgin and Mr Godfrey that United is not the only US carrier flying to Australia as has been quoted in the press today!

Yes, we should all benefit from V-Australia commencing ops on this route.
