Can someone tell Virgin and Mr Godfrey that United is not the only US carrier flying to Australia as has been quoted in the press today!
Indeed. We see HA operating from HNL and CO from Guam. I suppose we can't call AC a US carrier, but they do have operating rights under the same rules as US airlines (and NZ).

And here I was pinning my hopes on Australia Blue! (Perhaps JetBlue didn't like that one!!)

Oh well. Congrats on the naming DJ. I look forward to seeing V Australia providing competition next year to the incumbents.

It said on the news that Virgin aren't allowed to use the word 'VIRGIN' BUT also are not allowed to use the word 'BLUE' either! - because some American airline threatened to sue them! - wonder if they told the compeition entrants this....

I don't think DJ notified entrants that they weren't allowed to use 'Virgin' in the name, and it wouldn't surprise me that they avoided 'Blue' (i think jetBlue is the airline to which you refer.)

They did however hint in their T's and C's not to do it. I think it was like 'The name does not have to include the words 'Virgin' or 'Blue' HINT HINT Please don't or we get the pants sued off us :p.

Congrats to DJ and all involved on the announcement. Personally I think the livery is stunning.

something else i just noticed while on the DJ site. It looks like DJ have switched to the newer version of the Virgin branding.

nothing so exciting sorry. This one is very old. We have multiple different versions of logo depending on the background colour and application.
cheers

have not read this entire thread ...

does anyone know of the 'joke' names that people sent in ... These are usually funnier than the real name.

i used to work for Centrelink and there was an internal competition/call for names for the new agency. The one joke name i have never forgotten was 'Doelstra' ...:D Bloody brilliant.

we aussies are great at taking the p!ss so i am interested in what the joke names would have been suggested.

Are you sure? I know that the colours are different and all that but the Virgin group did change their logo a while back, and I think you guys have changed the Virgin part of your logo to correspond with that.

I found an old version of your logo to the same colour scheme.

There's a difference, I'm sure of it.

Regardless, I'm going to sound like an idiot anyway doubting the guy who actually works at Virgin Blue...:p

nope.
higher resolution = optical illusion perhaps.

stuartfaz, you have picked up on a (small but) Starck Galactic change, that happened to the Virgin brand a while back... progressively implemented throughout the Virgin cosmos! :)

Am I the only one that sees a difference?

The Virgin logo looks thicker and more streamlined.

I must be going mad...

I thought so! Glad to see I haven't gone insane just yet...

I know that the Virgin-controlled and new Virgin airlines (Atlantic, Nigeria, America) have had it for a while, and it's been rolled out across the other international Virgin brands. Virgin Money Oz and Virgin Mobile Oz have it as well. Virgin Blue must be the very last to get it.

I'm somewhat amazed.

They discourage people from using the word 'Blue' in the name, lest JetBlue sues them.

Yet they go stick a red extended tail on the plane and slap a recognisable Australian symbol (Southern Cross) on it.

You can't blame Virgin Blue for trying to avoid a lawsuit in the US. They seem to fly thick and fast over there.

Closer to the truth than many believe around here also :!:

FWIW, I've just booked a flight on Virgin America (VX).

It's for October, and if they're not flying by then they claim they will refund my fare x 200%. Not too shabby, really.

PS, I've seen the A320's parked at SFO, so they're ready to go.

I don't think Qantas have the rights to the colour red or all Australian symbols. Wait until Air Asia head down here and we'll have 3 lots of bright red planes to contend with.
