Virgin Australia Golds lose LAX lounge access

Just out of interest, as I am flying VA008 tomorrow in J,
do I check in at T3, stay landside and walk to to TBIT, go airside, visit lounge, and then walk back to T3.
or
do I go airside at T3 and walk to TBIT, stay airside and walk back to T3 for the flight?

Is T3 and TBIT even connected airside?

Bit confusing...

edit: I think I have confused myself.

The itinerary states the flight departs from T3 but I now realise the check-in is T3 and the flight departs from TBIT. So I check in at T3, walk to TBIT, go airside at TBIT visit lounge and board, no going back to T3.

Still, I can see why I have confused myself, its an unusual setup..

Edit: Nope, my mistake. I was there last week and do remember seeing "to T3" signs in the tunnel between T4 and TBIT, though they may have just led you outside (I stopped at TBIT, for obvious reasons)

You can access all the terminals airside I believe (nope wrong)

Only TBIT 4/5/6/7/8 are connected airside it seems.

And you depart from TBIT and don't go back

VA checkin is at the closest part of T3 to TBIT.

It's about an 80 metre walk.

TIP: When you get to TBIT go down to the arrivals level (there are stairs and escalators out front) - use the transit security there; it's generally quicker than upstairs. (Enter the arrivals [-]hall[/-] corridor, turn left and head down to the end.)

It is an odd arrangement, one that most travel tools aren't set up for (check in at one terminal, depart another). But the Virgin Website is pretty clear.

Appreciate all the responses, but just to close this out, the link you just posted is the current information for Lounge Access. The problem is...it's wrong.

"Virgin Australia Business class guests, Velocity Platinum and Velocity Gold members can access the Star Alliance Lounge when travelling on Virgin Australia services. Velocity Platinum guests are invited to access the First Class section of the Star Alliance Lounge."

This is incorrect information and has been for 2 months.

Right now, Virgin Australia Business class guests and Velocity Platinum members can access the Etihad Lounge only. Velocity Platinum cannot access the First Class section of the Star Alliance Lounge. Many Plats are not happy as they consider the *A lounge to be superior to the Etihad Lounge. Gold members not flying Business have no lounge access at all, hence the title of the thread.
I'm sorry, but the whole Virgin lounge access policy across domestic, short haul and long haul is a complete and utter dog's breakfast. The fact the the current info on the website is obsolete at best and misleading at worst is testament to that.

Have a play with the various eligibility levels on this page and combine it with the disclaimers at the bottom and then see how convoluted the whole framework is.

The best part is this: Gold Members travelling from LAX "Los Angeles, USA - Refer to a Virgin Australia Guest Services team member or contact the Guest Contact Centre". seriously? You need to contact someone? Just provide the info, it must be the same for all Golds.

Agree CPM, the check-in info is correct and thanks for posting. I wasn't belittling your post, I was just using the link in it as an example of how Virgin themselves seem to be lax (pardon the pun) in updating their own lounge information and why passengers are confused (well at least I was anyway).

I'm in the LAX EY lounge as we speak. Believe me when I say the vouchers that Gold gets is a much better deal than the lounge access in the EY lounge. Small, cramped, hot, no spare seats, no work spaces at all. The only reason I'm staying is to use the wifi to send a few emails and download some stuff before the flight.

In the LAX lounge now, 2 hrs before VA8 departs. No white wine left, Champagne ran out, food sparse. Crowded. Won't be staying here for long.

You didnt miss much. Its a long white room with arm chairs and a couple of table/seats.

Meal from a menu served to you but basically J buffet food prettied up and a private code only door that leads in/out of the F lounge to J. Oh, and I though the ceiling was too low.

J terrace is the best part, Im really going to miss not sitting there next month.

I'm going to opt out of the EY Lounge and ask for the vouchers and points at check-in for an upcoming flight in a few months. Will let you know how it goes... If anyone is travelling sooner, please give it a go and see how you get on.
