Why not? I pay a good sum for the ticket and inclusions. The meal will be my breakfast or dinner for the day so why not be able to request a dish of my preference.
Your not at a restaurant, your on a flight for hour or 2, the ticket cost no matter how high or low only entitles you to to arrive at your destination.
There's no kitchen back there, meals are fine for a flight.

Is that coffee from the lounge or what they serve now on board? I don't drink coffee during breakfast as I prefer sparkling wine (and drink my coffees strong in the lounge), but thought they came in proper coffee cups?
I was told that they were expecting turbulence

I asked for a coffee just before descent the other day and it was served like this with a side of many apologies for not being able to serve it in a cup. So, I think they must still be (usually) using 'real' cups.

Is it possible, when flying VA Business domestic, to ask for a hot chocolate with meal? That would be nice with the chocolate crepes tbh

Yes, in fact my photo above was hot chocolate that was served in a paper cup this morning

Served a coffee in a takeaway cup just before descent is fine as the above poster who got it due to predicted turbulence.

I'd like to think in 2026 they could have a meal selector for J.
Add it in the app perhaps?
United is able to do this for their flights - you can pre-order your meals up to 24 hours prior to departure via the app. Shouldn't be an issue - except potential coding cost in the app - and could potentially increase customer satisfaction.

I doubt they will spend $$$ for people to select a meal when fuel prices/route cuts and staff cuts are going on
