I would certainly not call the new website impractical. It focuses on the main functions of a user (Search, book & manage my flights). Are you unable to do that?
I am quite able to do that; but am less likely too.

There is far too much content - as I indicted the New AirNZ and JQ sites have the same issues.

Try bringing the mouse down from the top of the page to a certain point (say after clicking a tab). Before you get to that screen element you wish to access e.g. STATUS or Expand ▼, it gets obliterated with a 'mouseover' activated menu (Experience | Plan | Bookings | Velocity Frequent Flyer | Specials & Offers).

Very poor designing. It's even worse when using a touchpad as it's harder to "circle" the pointer to clear the menu inadvertently activated.

This web site is not the only one with these issues, it seems developers these days assume everyone has a touch screen!

FWIW, the Velocity web page is better as the sensitive menus are smaller and don't obscure so much. (And the Qantas one is very well designed in that respect with its horizontal menus but I guess I should not mention that here :p).

Tried searching for SYD-HKG or HKG-SYD for July next year and just got 'Page Cannot Be Found'

Hehe, apparently their system has a fixation with MEL-ADL. Searching for MEL-HKG return gets me search results for MEL-ADL.

Virgin Australia, you guys need to do a bunch more testing yet. Can we have the old websites back for now? At least they work...

Definately some bugs at the moment. It took me 4 attempts to sucessfully login to Velocity Frequent Flyer, and then by selecting "My Account" details you get thrown out into the old Velocity login page where it asks for your Velocity no. and password again.

That's more likely subjective.

When I visit the page, I can certainly see at least 65% of the site (3 scrolls to view the entire content, content that I wouldn't be interested in anyway).

Agree - subjective based on the user, their experience with IT and web sites and generally the "care" factor on the content versus what function they are looking to use. I think it's much cleaner, easier to read and excellent drop down menus. As I am a late on the IT uptake, I am using a laptop and wouldn't use my iPhone for usingthe web site (might use it to call VA though ;)) [No iPad here yet, but musing about getting one in the post-Xmas sales].

Then again, I'm not using it often and having to navigate around it yet. That will come in time (and travel :D)

Ah, I did strike this problem, but only 1 attempt. Lucky I suppose

Great news on becoming one airline, it's been in the works for some time I imagine.

I like the design of the new website, quite modern. However, I get the impression nobody tested this. I feel like I am using a beta version with many obvious UI Bugs. I can imagine the guys in Web Dv are working overtime fixing everything today!

Great Job VA - But you really need to do more user testing with your web products before they are released.

Amen to that!

Are you offering to assist with their beta testing LiamR :D

What'd be neat is if they invited a selection of paying customers (from, I don't know, AFF let's say) to help find the bugs on something like this after internal testing but before general release. The rationale being it'd be awfully nice from the perspective of a frequent traveller to know that attempting to do something like buying airfares isn't going to take a bunch of guesswork and time wasting to get a result.

Speaking for myself, I'd be happy to donate some time for that.

Shhhh, don't say that. I'm meant to be on a three week holiday.
You're up early this morning ;)

I liked the way you just threw in the "from, I don't know, AFF let's say" :D

Well, I'd need the testing to be a group effort, in the lounge, fully catered...

I do like your thinking ;) :D

Hi,

Virgin Australia - any idea when velocity will be completely integrated into the new website? I like the fact that there is the log in on the VA page and it then comes up with points/status - but to do anything more it takes you to velocityrewards.com.au as a new/separate page.

That being said - i like the changes.

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Only the top ~30% of the front page content appears on loading and one has to scroll down to see more.

The old site was far more compact and useful.

I agree, the top half of the website is huge. Takes up toooooo much screen real estate.

When the "Book" thing is expanded it just takes up too much room... tighten it right up and it'll be great.

Otherwise, I am loving the new look.
