I did that with Thursday's flights last week, yesterday i did usual vr pnline checkin for today's flights. Same result, enter all ff number or booking number and dep city blah blah. Obviously they have forgotten to tick some box in the design, whereby if already logged in they don't need to ask membership number. As a side note, I like the design of va site, simple layout and actually I find it easy to use ( except the online checkin, which I feel may be a tech issue)

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I just check in with no problems by using the check in tab (see earlier screen grab) on the main page of the website. The only way I can reconcile with the experience of others is to think they fixed any glitch.

I can go to the main VA page select checkin and then enter the booking ref etc and checkin. The question is why would I want to do this when I am already logged in and authenticated.

1. Login to Velocity
2. Choose My Bookings on the left
3. Select view bookings
4. Select the booking
5. Select Web checkin for the booking

At this point your asked to supply your member number or the flight ref. Why ? Your already logged in.

Also, why would you want to add another 5 steps and now open the VA main page and enter more flight details when your already logged in and authenticated and can see your booking in your Velocity portal.

Granted you might go straight to the VA page and click on checkin, but the scenario is your ALREADY in your Velocity portal managing your bookings.

Does that help ?

Ok so I see the problem. This is Virgin Australia not Qantas. What you're talking about is how the Qantas website works. I'm not sure why anyone would expect all airline websites to work the same. As for why you would check in from the main page - because it works!

By this post I'd also suspect that it has always worked - Which makes having my early post called bovine excrement even slightly more frustrating.

Not by me ! I respect everyones posts, especially when they are trying to help.

Web Checkin has always worked, I haven't ever indicated otherwise personally. Its the infuriating double processes and the often roundabout way of using it that is the issue.

I wouldn't know about Qantas, I don't fly with them. ;) But, if Qantas has a nice simple fluid process that sounds good and yes thats what we would like to see.

Oops sorry my second paragraph wasn't meant to be directed to you. I also totally agree that the round about process is annoying. But having done it once, or twice, I have learnt to use the main page only.

Qantas clearly have a philosophy of referring back to your logged in details. Virgin doesn't. I'm not sure one is more fluid than the other. I'd guess Virgin's approach suits customers who are mainly not frequent flyers. I find the virgin way much better for doing quick searches for flights, as I can log in mid booking. Whereas with qantas i frequently have to exit a booking search to log in and then start again, because I'm too lazy to type in my details.
