Virgin Amex Velocity Platinum card now 110k points

Further email received from Amex last night -

"Our marketing team has requested to wait for 10 weeks (my bolding) from the Card application approval date. The bonus points should be issued to your account automatically."

"Just in case you do not receive the points once the timeframe has elapsed, please email us and we will issue it manually."

At least I have acknowledgement that the points are on their way. Fortunately, I don't need them in the next few weeks.

Hmmmmph…..

Good news for many people here. Unfortunately I can't worry about such matters yet as I've not had a referral yet.
I used Formal Hall's from several pages ago for my sign-up & would be very appreciative if somebody decided to use mine.

Thanks! :p

PS: I got my first statement credit yesterday on the velocity card. Bought a $350 qantas gift voucher (despite it being against the terms for the credit).
I also got a spend 30, get 15 back for woolies & Target. Both should be easy to redeem. Finally there was an offer to get 20 or 30 back if I set up direct debit with either telstra or optus. I won't use either as I'm with amaysim.
So for me at least I will conservatively get $80 back from my card. Here's hoping I do get the velocity points (edge owner), but I won't be distraught if I don't.
Happy days!

I've always wondered what would happen if someone held a current Amex card but didn't disclose this on their application. Would they be declined for not being truthful on the application?
I'm just not sure of the point of doing this. Leaving aside they probably do attach some weight to being truthful (I don't think they'd deny on this alone from reports but may be a factor and then push you towards a decline), the fact is they do know. There have been reports on here of people not declaring and getting the card but Amex had picked up on the fact you already had one.

I'm posting again in the hope that someone here on AFF will use my Amex referral link before the offer ends:

Thanks in advance (I used another AFFers link in August :)).

Hey mate,
I've used your link, conditionally approved. Just started a new contract after a short period out of work so will see if that works gets me over the line.

I put a few more transactions on my card to see if it might "trigger" the referral bonuses. Got zip so far.

Guess it's time to sit tight and see if Amex will come good.

Have I already mentioned that I really hate this token-based referral system which makes it almost impossible for anyone except Amex to ensure a successful referral is completed?

Little bit unrelated to referrals, but might help some decide if it's worth getting an amex card or not?
It's coming around to the time of year that amex has traditionally run 'shop small'. Last year it was in November & I managed to claim the maximum amount $100. Indeed I intend to get supp cards this year to take get even more use out of the offer.
Even without the the free flight, I reckon I'd get close to claiming the value of the card. :D

Speaking of the value of the card. I've had mine for a week or two now, but am yet to receive the $349 bill. How have others received their bills?

It comes right at the end of your first statement period... don't worry they won't forget ;)

I've had mine for about two weeks, too. I received my first statement within a week of receiving the card, which included the annual fee and the single purchase I'd made on it up to that point.

mrpooky.

Does anyone know if you generate a new referral link, does it replace any existing links you had, and what happens if you're not sure whether somebody's used it? (Or does the same one get generated?)

Thanks to all on this thread for the information they have shared. Love this community.

Pretty late to the party, but have just started using the card myself. Think it's a brilliant deal, and am grateful to be a part of it.

For anyone still looking to join, you are most welcome to use my referral link. Any clicks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks heaps!

Got the approval text so hopefully your referral points will be credited before Xmas

Interesting development:

My wife's card had lots of referrals due to her being one of the early adopters and signing up many work colleagues.

She signed up 23 people for a total of 460,000. (Crazy I know!)

She transferred most of those velocity points to me via family transfer and hasn't used her card since.

The statement and transfer date is on Monday but this appeared on the amex points page:

'Refer a friend 20000 points bonus' -40,000

It actually showed a minus 40,000 rather than the + 40,000 like the others.

Seems like they are overhauling their computer system to take back the overpaid accounts.

If she has no points in her velocity account what will happen to this 'negative 40,000'??

EDIT: OR just like the 'velocity auto' appears a negative, does this mean she signed up 2 more people but now it's getting transferred straight to velocity??.

So confused.

It does't make sense - if they were indeed enforcing the 200,000 points cap the adjustment should be much higher... unless you'll see more of these "negative bonuses" popping up in the next few days?!

I mentioned it before but I was accepted using Sojourner's and the card arrived in the mail on Thursday. A bit longer than I expected but, reading the thread they have been pretty popular and are taking a bit longer. That said I'm still waiting on my 28Degrees which I applied for around the same time.

If anyone hasn't applied for this yet, it would be fantastic if you wanted to consider using my referral link below:

Thanks for the consideration,
