Couldn't agree more re the "last 5 digits" thing...bit rude

I think this even goes against their own T&Cs, it's crazy they ask to disclose this info to a third party. Realistically if you got the 110k bonus points it means you used a unique link that should easily allow Amex to get back to the referrer and validate your request...

For those who are still to apply, would be grateful if you used my link

Thanks

:)

Mondo - I am a bit late to the party but have used your referral - stay tuned to see if your points come through (will post when application successful).

Application successful - apparently! Are they usually that quick?

Thanks eastwest! Yes, my card was approved on the spot right after I hit the submit button.

The card came a few days later, but I know that the demand has been high and the cards are taking up to 2 weeks to be sent.

Out of a sample size of 4 in our family, the longest approval time has been 2 days, the shortest has been hours.

It's almost riotous the rate at which they are approving people.

Mrscove got disapproved today for this card. She already has an Amex Ultimate with a 100k limit. They told her straight out " you are not getting the 110,000 points".
Ouch, but you just brush off misses and keep working on hits.
My eldest son was approved in 60 seconds yesterday for the same card.
My youngest son got dust as well and was told you can have the card but we won't give you the 110,000 points.
So both get to yes but with a big trailing "no 110,000 points for you".

Out of interest cove, how did they give you the news about not getting the points? Did you call up and ask or was it in paperwork?

Amex phoned home and we called back. We never fib on credit card applications so the income facts and expense details were all good. Both of us made big totals of frequent flyer points with Amex Ultimate Qantas so maybe that influenced their thoughts.
We are doing nicely with our U.S. Amex so we are not devastated in the least. Mrscove is not a Virgin Flyer so I wanted the points for my two sons to use.

My relo took up my link and I kept checking, but the 20K did not appear, but I was being patient.

Now, today, my sweep has gone from AMEX to VA and the 20K points have been added to my spend. It just does still not appear as a neat extra item 20K as the one I had before on my AMEX points list.

The plot thickens...

My points should be transferring over in the coming days, I'll keep an eye out if my 2 'missing' referrals are included.

very interesting indeed

20k arrived in my VA account today for the one referral I received from a good mate. Approx. 1 month after he received the card.

I wonder if the new timing is coinciding with the refered getting their 110,000. I think this scenario was given over the phone to someone on here.

1. They don't roll over, you have to use them by anniversary date
2. Fare needs to be available as a "Saver class fare", as per T&c I just read. It does talk about limited dates around school hols/xmas etc, but if saver is available you will be all good.. Yep Amex Membership Travel Services (ph) 1300 366 105 :)
If you haven't hooked a card as yet, my referral link is a couple of pages back :) No joy so far, just looking for the one.

Applied thru your link the other day Coops1. Approved yesterday. enjoy 20k

Maybe not, my wife signed up under my link and she has received the 110k points but no 20k bonus for me, but who knows. Will sit patiently for a few more weeks.

They are really taking their sweet cough time assessing my application. I sent in I.D. proof on the 3/9 and their email said it would take no more than 7 days. Approaching the 14 day mark. Called up last Thursday and they said they are assessing it and should know by end of Friday. Called up again yesterday and they said they just received I.D. proof and will start assessing application. Really fuming at these inconsistencies.

Theyre normally very good. Hopefully they'll come through for you soon. It'll be worth the wait. :-D

Another interesting thing I noticed on their list of transactions is that the free Virgin flight got listed with the first purchase on the card.
Do the points sweep into the Velocity account after the first payment of the Amex account?

A follow up email received from Amex today - they "have immediately escalated this to our Marketing team to check the status of bonus points..." "They will diligently look in to this and issue the points accordingly". "...Please allow me 5 to 7 business days to get back to you with an update..."

Stay tuned.

Further email received from Amex last night -

"Our marketing team has requested to wait for 10 weeks (my bolding) from the Card application approval date. The bonus points should be issued to your account automatically."

"Just in case you do not receive the points once the timeframe has elapsed, please email us and we will issue it manually."

At least I have acknowledgement that the points are on their way. Fortunately, I don't need them in the next few weeks.

Hmmmmph…..
