Vinomofo Wine Deals

Today's "Premium Black Market" deal would appear to be the Glen Eldon Twisted Trunk Reserve Shiraz 2006.

I came to the same conclusion about todays black market deal.

Still a little undecided if that wine is even worth the $30 they want for it. From what I've read, this is one hugely oaked wine.

Hope you're right young fella - just bought a doz - you're creditability totally on the line here!

No Pressure... :p

The age of the vines and 5 years in oak are a bit of a give-away.

The Black Market buying brigade present to you: a super premium, $100 Shiraz that will blow...your...socks off! Made from ancient 120-plus year old Barossa vines, this vintage has only been great enough to make this rare red twice since the turn of the millenium. You know what the Black Market is by now, and although black, it's the brightest part of your day.

So what we can tell you is:

  • This is some epically dense juice, all ripe plums, spice and chocolate wrapped up in a velvet blanket of fine French oak
  • It’s been rated 94pts by James Halliday with a gushing write-up
  • Like a powerful European, this has been aged five years in oak before bottling and is all the better for it
  • This is an impressive wine, made for those who enjoy bold flavours and wines that pack a serious punch
  • You'll need to decant this one to open it up
  • It's an unbelievable $70 off per bottle!
  • You won't want to miss it.

Excellent colour for a wine rising six years old; made from 126-year-old vines, matured for two years in new and second-use French and American oak before being transferred to older oak for a further three years in oak; the oak certainly makes its mark with a strong vanilla understory, the tannins are likewise fully softened, both aspects reflecting the long period in oak. Would less have been better? Only made twice since 2000.

Rating: 94
Drink By: 2021
Price: $95.00

I'm pretty sure penegal has the right wine there, not really that interesting to me.

The GSM 2011 deal was a kaesler by the way.

Fairly confident the "Iconic Secret Deal Shiraz" (vinomofo.com/deals/red-wine/iconic-secret-deal-shiraz-2005-f3c19bf1) is the Reynella Cellar 1 Shiraz 2005. Actually, I'm more than fairly confident, as they just copied and pasted large swathes of their previous listing on it (vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/reynella-cellar-1-shiraz-2005-5388c699), including all the categories and whatnot, and used it for the Shiraz deal.

Any ideas on today's black market deal 2011 Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir?

Today's Adelaide Hills secret Chardonnay is Chain of Ponds Corkscrew Rd Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2008.

Sounds decent enough at that price. I'd buy some, but have enough drink now Chardonnay in the cellar.

I got some of that, at a similar price, through a different source. Whilst it's perfectly drinkable, it isn't worth the RRP they're touting. I don't think it's worth significantly more than what they're offering it at.

Looks like today's black-market-deal-barossa-valley-shiraz-mourvedre-2010 is the:
Hewitson Private Cellar Barossa Valley Shiraz Mourvedre

Never tried it myself so can't recommend jumping straight to a magnum. Although they might be nice for giving as Xmas pressies.

Halliday's tasting note:

"Purple-crimson; it's not hard to understand why Dean Hewitson boldly puts 'cellaring potential 20 years' on the front label, for this complex and intense wine coming, as it does, from exceedingly old vines; satsuma plum, liqueur cherries, spice and fruitcake fill the palate from start to finish, the tannins fine and ripe, oak merely a vehicle."

That tasting note really is a bit rubbish and doesn't convey a 96 point wine to me.

Since wine, and especially chardonnay, is such a personal thing, would you mind providing some comparisons? From the sound of it, you're saying it's pretty average! Not much $15 a bottle I've found that's any good!

i bought a dozen of this Hewitson Private Cellar Barossa Valley Shiraz Mourvedre straight away , it is from an old vine, i can't say all wine comes from old vine worths that much but they are hard to get your hands on.

does anyone know what is that barossa shiraz 2007 at $50?
