Vinomofo Wine Deals

Anyone else just get something like the following:

"Hi David,

Annie here from the Marketing team!

Just a quick heads up - you've got '$10.06' unused credit on your account, but it expires at 11:59pm tonight.

Use your code ‘xx_X’ at checkout to access your credit.

Don't miss your chance to put it towards your next order.

Cheers,
Annie"

I don't have any credits with Vinomofo. I assume it's just another of their marketing ploys as the code to use looked fairly generic.
Yup I got it too.

If they'd said it was Annie from Accounts it might have sounded more plausible

Back to first principles - usually easy to work out of there are scores posted. If there are 2 scores I usually can identify them pretty quickly and let my people know.

Like this one:
Shiraz 2021 - Black Market Deal #71290 - Red Wine

Says Wax-Dipped and then screwcap in the detail \but I think this is likely to be the 2021 vintage of this: Colonel Shiraz 2019 — Lights Valley with 96 from SK and Vinomasters.
And unwrapped today Unwrapped: Lights Valley Colonel Shiraz 2021 - Red Wine

UPDATE: Turns out I had a $40 birthday code to use (didn't receive any notification about that code). So used that code and got one of these for $35 posted:

Me too and I "fell" for it, only later did I realise that I could have just waited for a $15 or $20 dollar code to come up. It's kind of creative but also kind of false marketing.

I got a variation of that email about a month ago. Didn't bite as there's always codes, free delivery etc available.

Hi Happy Dude,

Just a reminder that you have $20.06 in unused credit accessible in your Vinomofo account.

Use your code ‘ xx_xx_ ’ at checkout to access your credit.

Your credit expires at midnight tonight.

Credit Amount: $20.06

Expires: Tonight at 11:59 PM

Noting that a Light's Valley wine (The Colonel) is mentioned above. It's a sort of phantom brand. I've not been able to discover who the winemakers nor growers are. Nor at which facilities they're made. You can find their minimalist website, which we're informed is "Made with Squarespace" (one might insert adverb "quickly" before "Squarespace"). On the 'About' page, is a vague blurb about Colonel Light naming Barossa, & nothing else. No details on the winemaking process, address, no email address, just a contact form. This brand & website has a twin, Devitt & Moore. Same number of web pages, same layout, same puff of lazy, pseudo history. Both brands have a matching heavy bottle/wax dipped cork/hefty (supposed) RRP approach. I used their 'Contact Us' form about 2 years ago, asking for those things one expects to know (how & where the wines are made etc), & also whether these 2 brands are siblings. I'm awaiting a reply.. A further mystery is how the reviewers manage to come into contact with these wines, in order to give their stellar scores.

Answering my own question, I wouldn't be surprised if the mystery company behind these (I'll add Magarey Lane for good measure) starts with "C & ends with "W". Though why that company doesn't list these 3 on their website is curious, so perhaps I'm wrong.

CW wines. Why not name it?

Sam Kim deserves a mention in the back story to these phantom wines.
Apart from the stupid fantasy RRP it's much the same thing as the big chain own-brands and stuff like 19 Crimes and Squealing Pig.

The new home-grown version of Sam Kim is getting a lot of traction too.

There is a huge amount of wine to try to sell and these marketing ploys are a sign of desperation and inventiveness that annoys people who see the scam and just want to buy the best wine at a price they can afford.
