Vinomofo Wine Deals

I fancy going a little off piste here, anyone have any real experience with th Fo's Barolo's on offer? High level google searches seem to indicate that the A$ prices seem broadly on par with the odd high end Sydney or Melbourne bottle shop. Was looking at the below in particular.

Vinomofo - Raise the Barolo Pack - Mixed Case

Have been buying Giovanni Rosso for years. Incredible producer. In the past i was happily procuring them from the importer but couldn't resist when i saw VM's offers. Snapped up 9 cases given some were $50 - $90 cheaper than the importer. When it comes to Barolo, Bordeaux, Burgundy provenance is the key. The cynic in me though surely these have been paralleled imported but i was guaranteed they'd arrived in an air-conditioned container direct from Italy. I couldn't help but try a few myself and all have been in perfect condition so pretty chuffed with my purchase. I've bought some Manzone in the past. Pretty fair for the money, but not in the same league as Giovanni IMHO.

What do you think of the Giovanni Barbera? I was thinking of getting a case of that as well.

The GR Barbera is a good wine. The last bottle i tried was the 2012 which was really nice.

Didn't buy any of the latest vintage as i loaded up on the Serralunga 2012 & Cerretta 2013.

Just bought a few cases of Fletcher Barolo & Lange which have to rank as some of the best value buys from these regions.

The price matches Brothers and Sisters but the % alcohol doesn't.
I recall the barossa/adelaide hills label errors previously though. Pretty sure that was confirmed as Fox Gordon. In this thread somewhere

Thanks. Is Fox Gordon worth a try?
As good as Maverick Twins 2015 shiraz? ;)

The Brothers and Sisters Shiraz is quite a nice drop. I rated it an 89 on CT. I don't think it's quite as well composed as the Maverick, but it's not too far off it. The B&S is a much more fruit-forward wine if you're into that sort of thing. I rated the Maverick a 92 on CT. Here are my tasting notes for the Fox Gordon:

Very deep carmine in colour, almost impenetrable. The nose somewhat closed. However, the plum and blueberry fruit are rich and vibrant, and oh so inviting. One sip becomes a glass, and quickly becomes a bottle. Despite the vibrancy of the fruit, the wine feels soft and almost delicate in the mouth and extremely well balanced. The core of the wine is dark and deeply savoury, but still largely undeveloped at this stage, however, there are some nice dark chocolate, cured meats and dark olive flavours present. The tannins are fine and dusty. It’s almost a fruit-bomb, but in the best possible way. The ultimate quaffer.

Hey everyone, first post so wanted to say thanks for all the info, it's helped pick some very tasty drops.

This just popped up and is Grove Estate Nebbiolo, have some on the way can review once it arrives
Vinomofo - Black Market Nebbiolo 2015 - Red Wine

Apparently there is some Denton Viewhill Shiraz 2013 around as well but not sure if it's on the site yet, $45 down to $15 , Yarra Valley. I've had the 2014 which was quite nice , big juicy full of cherries, apparently this ones bit more herbaceous hard to find reviews though.

Welcome to the forum vishy, let us know if the Nebbiolo is to your liking. I think people enjoyed the last Denton Shiraz from memory, but the addition of some herbaceous characters piques my interest.

Just wondering if people have been receiving straight cases in Vinomofo boxes or the original ones from the winery?

I recently received Gembrook Hill Pinot Noir 2015, which is my first purchase since last buying Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Merlot 2014 back in March, and was surprised to discover that it came in a Vinomofo box instead of a Gembrook Hill one - just wondering if that's the norm these days, as previously everything else (besides mixed cases) has been in original winery packaging?
Hi qaz, certainly haven't had that experience myself, almost always in the original vineyard issue box but might have had one ore two that were in a plain box but never had a VM - branded one...(not that it's much use to you I know :))

I've had wine in VM boxes and its been fine.

Grabbed a case of the Lou Miranda shiraz during the free shipping sale last night. $50 down to $15 is pretty decent and they dont seem to do a bad wine.

Seen some posts re packaging. I just received a case of Tempus Two sparkling and Tarras (The Canyon) Pinot Noir, both in winery boxes.

I wasn't overly impressed with the Tarras. I wouldn't pay RRP based on the bottle I had last night.. Didn't have much nose and tasted a bit flat for a youngish pinot - but I've had a cold so I'll reserve judgement for now. The rest are headed for the cellar so it will be a year at least before I try another bottle.

I was happy with the Tarras The Canyon PN 2014, thought it was a fair example of Central Otago Pinot for the price on VM.

I saw your earlier post redbigot and given I have the remnants of a cold I won't disagree but I found it a bit hard going myself. May well just have been me on the day. My wife was happy enough with it but preferred her "cheap" french chardy. First world problems.
