Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals - Squid Ink

The VinoMofo McLaren Vale Tempranillo 2015 https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/mof_-contraband-deal-tempranillo-2015 matches the Sam Kim review for Allegiance The Fighter, VM had the 2014 @ $8.90 a while back.

Incidentally, Tony Keys reviews are (mostly?) available on his site for free, but searching is not easy.
Sam Kim is a subscription site in NZ Wine Orbit: Sam Kim : Independent Extensive Reviews featuring New Zealand Wines and Wines of the World and has good search options. It seems more wines on VM feature his scores, maybe because of the move into the NZ market, maybe because he will review just about any wine sent to him if you pay his $34 per wine fee for doing so. That's what I come up with two although the Tony Keys report I found here Wines outside the mainstream box - The Key Report is not for the correct year nor does it have the same score as the one listed by VM. It does however exactly match the Sam Kim review listed in the tasting notes at the winery website.

It is an incredibly strange listing blurb by VM given Allegiance say it was named after someone who battled cancer. For that reason I briefly thought it might be The Scoundrel tempranillo.

Has anyone tried any of the Allegience wines? They seem to win a lot of awards from Chinese wine shows which makes me think that is the market they are after.

I bought their 2014 Grenache thru VM for $12.90 - it's pretty good actually. They didn't go overboard chasing a 15% monster. From what I can gather from here, their wines are solid if not spectacular & good value thru VM (though I seem to recall one of their brews getting canned).

On that vein I believe the 2012 Temp is 2012 Hewitson Basham’s Beach Tempranillo, only released in 'exceptional' vintages. But my last experience with Miss (pepper) Harry will keep me clear.

Vinomofo Wine Deals - Maverick 2015 Cab

Picked up a case of the Maverick 2015 Cabernet earlier this month and less than excited about it. I'm planning to return it but given there seems to be a lot of love for it here, wondered if anyone would like to take it off my hands instead? 11 bottles, $11.50ea. Planning to give the 'Fo a call in a couple of days if no-one wants them.

I had two cases of Allegiance wines picked up from me yesterday. Returned both the Shiraz and Cab Sauv and was really unimpressed by these wines. I would concur that these appear to be made for the Asian market given their "thin" and very forward taste.

I am curious as to the basis for your assertion re correlation of "made for the Asian market" and "given their thin/forward taste".

China is now the biggest market for Australian wine, including the likes of Penfolds premiums as well as the lower end wines.
The Asian market is one reason why the prices of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne premium prices have remained to high.

I think the news of mixing Bordeaux with cola didn't help.
New labels targeting the Chinese market might go for the "syrupy" formula.
Now they are more sophisticated and just recently scooped tasting competition.

I would love to try a bot of this 2015 maverick cab as it seems to be one of the most polarazing wines out there.

Not sure if I missed something along the way, but I've only seen 2 comments - one that liked and one that didn't. Would love to see more people weigh in for a proper sample size.

For the Maverick Twins Cab blend* Loved it. I took advantage of the price error from cellarmasters - case for $70. Spectacular wine, would be up with one of my favourite's. Perfect to drink now but I'm hoping it only gets better in 10 years. Was considering buying this off the person selling 11 bottles. (by the way if you are in Sydney (NBeaches) that might make it more appealing!)

I didn't see CM selling the straight '15 Cab? Only the '10 & '13 Cab blend?

Hey V50 I got a case of the 2015 Maverick Cab Sav thanks to DB's glowing report card and he's absolutely right, it is a deep, dark, aromatic red with great character, it's actually more appealing to me than the GSM and the Cab Blend both very decent wines in their own right, and this coming from a confirmed Shiraz drinker! Very happy with the purchase...

I'm based in Melbourne - should have clarified that!

They might still have a few cases stashed away. Give them a call. I've always found the telephone staff very friendly and helpful.

Thought this was to well spoken of to let go, to answer the Q. Lolo, just picked up 2 cases from VINOMOFO per phone. As always excellent to deal with :D

(Maverick Twins Shiraz 2015 @ $11.50/ea + shipping)
