Vinomofo Wine Deals

Received my Blue Pyrenees Estate Blend Red Bordeaux blend last week which I split 6 each with a colleague.

It's this if anyone's interested. https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/mof_-secret-deal-cabernet-blend-2012-664a5e01

Definitely has a lot of class. It is much more in keeping with the Bordeaux style of Bordeaux blend than we might be used to over here. Very dry, closed wine at first and a little grippy on the palate. It took an hour of the bottle being open to start opening up at all. After a couple of hours and when I'd all but finished the bottle it was a lot more open and the fruit was more apparent. This is a good wine but needs a fair few years more I'd say to develop properly. I probably won't open another of the remaining 5 for a couple of years and will decant for a few hours before drinking it.

Happy with the purchase although I'm wary of having a growing number of Cabernets that need cellar time filling up my wine fridge.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have a case (and a bottle from previous DM order) and am looking forward to trying a bottle. I am also finding myself in the same predicament in regards to my Cabernets, so many that need to sit for a while clogging up space! :)

Just to drop a quick line about one Bayliss product that the Fo had last year, their 2013 Black label GSM. It's the only Bayliss I have bought and was part of a black market mixed. It was a beautifully full, rich, smooth vino FWIW.

Brand new wine on the 'fo. 95 pointer. SA shiraz. Under $12 per bottle. Sold! Cant wait to unvail its identity....

View attachment 71683Couldn't resist Salvation Case 108 for 12 delivered.
Hopefully there are a couple of Mavericks in there; but no broken ones!

I thought hard about this one given the "up to $500 value" tagline, but I simply don't have any more space. Would love to know what turned up.

Do any of you longer term mof_'s know how frequently they put the Gusto Mama King Island Sangiovese up for sale?

I got a 6 pack recently and would like to get more but its all gone now. :(

Might be Redman ? 92 pts TWF.

Certainly looks like it. Matches the RMWS stats and the 100-year family winemaking history, and the winemaker's personal CV in Central Victoria, the Barossa Valley and the US.

92pts Halliday too (or maybe CM supplied the Wine Companion review, though it's not attributed as such).

Yes it is, click through the TN on the site to see the attribution. CM - Published on 02 Sep 2015

Ah, thanks redbigot, I didn't realise they hid the attribution under there! Sometimes they include it in the tasting note itself, so I got to assuming that when they didn't it was from JH. Funny because you can often tell from the writing style that it isn't, and that might have tipped me off here too.

The tasting note mentions that it wants time, but is under cork. At least the VM listing gets the closure right too. Sometimes they fail on that, wittingly or unwittingly, which is annoying. (I also have a general no-corks policy. CM wrote an article on the WC website the other day with 21 cellaring tips, three of which were about compensating for the shortcomings of corks. In an ongoing wine surplus, it seems you can reduce those to a single tip that seems a lot more obvious.)

In the book they are attributed if not JH, online the author is always noted, at least in recent years.
Yes, style of the words is often a giveaway.
I seldom buy cork-sealed wines these days, am rapidly reducing the number of older cork-sealed wines I have, by drinking or auction, probably only about 200 to go.

The boys are currently offering a 94-point 2015 WA chardonnay, reduced from $26 to $9.90. Any guesses from the cognoscenti here?
