Vinomofo Wine Deals

I have no record of it being offered before except in a mixed pack about a week ago. Obviously didn't make much of a splash previously, but it's got 95 from Halliday so I doubt it's bad. For $20 at DM you'd be buying some pretty middling Annie's Lane or Ingoldby or similar.

Pretty sure it is new - I first saw it as part of this week's VIM offers.

Tuesday I think. Bunch of black market deals. I hope this wasn't a continuation of VMs recent service to you :)

Haha - that would be hilarious - not

Found the email. It was an odd one where I couldn't get IE to open the link (kept getting a message to disable the pop-up blocker) so I think I gave up on that. No one mentioned any good deals so I assumed there was nothing great on offer

Fair enough. The deals were ok, but I wasn't in the mood to try figure them out that day - as you say, the forum was quiet so maybe others felt the same!

Anyone have any notes? Quite a bit of bling but I cant find much on the Uncle Google

It's a big step up from the standard Jack Estate Shiraz (which I sent back, boring and just too acidic), better fruit, better tannin structure, but still a little acid poking out more than I would like, improved a little on the second day. Not really up to the scores/medals IMO.
I got the one I tried in the mixed 6-pack, not tempted to go for more.

Thanks for the notes. Swayed me in the "not worth it" direction

I just made some room in the quaffer cabinet with some gift to family this evening so ordered the salvation case, get to try the thousand candles, be interested to see what side of the fence I sit with that one.

Not so sure about the value of the salvation case...the 6 pack of 95+ pointers that included the candles (along with a couple of other known gems) seemed like better value at $122, particularly with the free delivery the other day. I know you are getting another 6 in this, but interested to hear what else they include.

Thanks for the tip RedBigot and also to others - appreciate them

Discards, returns,fillers,excesses,...you have to admire this business model of not having a lot of languishing inventory...throw in a big tempter , present the bargain caee and Boom.....you got it, alcohol is your salvation. And if a few of us on this site who have spent heaps on liquor bandied together, we would be part of the Salvation army..........or is that where our future derelict direction dictates? Dunno. But I'll drink to it anyway.

As long as it doesn't have any of the Better Half Pinot in it I'll be happy with 11 new quaffers.

Hopefully might have a couple of gems, I was half pissed when I ordered it so probably won't be my best purchase...

Echoing other thank you's for tips and tasting notes, been very valuable for a vinomofo user for only 6 months.

I've ordered a few in the past and have found them a genuine 'luck of the draw'. Some of the wines have been mediocre, some have been well over the average price you'd expect. A couple of bottles of Picardy Pinot which is ~$40 at Dans (and delicious) I remember.

For the $10/bottle pricetag I'd say all of my cases have been ok value. Adding in the 'hero' wine (I've had Thousand Candles and Stonewell Shiraz amongst others) and it is a pretty decent punt. If you're looking for a bit of variety and don't mind a dabble in the unknown I don't think you can go far wrong with one of them.

The 3 Oceans Explorer is back up. I've already got two cases of this so I won't Boom again, but I've convinced the old man he needs some in his cabinet. For $13 a bottle it's an exceptional wine, if you like a more restrained Shiraz that is.

Happy to oblige....Over the weekend quite a few bottles were sampled and one ,coincidentally was the 3Oceans 2013 Explorers chardonnay. Whilst not exceptional in the way that the Churchview 2014 Wild fermented chardonnay is, it still rates as fantastic. Elegantly made, subtle French oak, not overly butterly, so refreshing and crisp. Same night had the Driftwood 2009 Semillon. Beautiful wine.

Back to the Think Outside the Square cabernet. Whilst not an awful wine, my remaining ten are going back. It is quite an interesting cabernet with all those accolades that to most of us, simply didn't deliver on the medal count bestowed on it.

Talking about medal counts, Sunday night drank the Taylors 2014 Shiraz. You know the one,,,,advertised in bus shelters, about 15 gold emblems. I think its 2 for $30 in todays BWS shops. Sometimes you have to consider that when you make such a user friendly Clare valley shiraz like this one, you can't go wrong. Namery, no one would find it offensive. But drinking it had me asking for more. More character, more complexity, just something extra. A fruit bomb? Not exactly, but definitely a made to suit simpler palates type of red. Very similar to that red label wolf blass that sells for about eight dollars. As quaffers, absolutely no problems. But here we see again that heaps of medals don't really mean all that much.

I am glad you enjoyed the 3Oceans shiraz.....from memory, damn good.
