Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Did anyone try the last Lou Miranda Sparkling Shiraz and care to comment? Tis the season....

I thought it was Ok, it showed up quite well in a couple of tasting sets. Didn't go back for more though.
But one of my subscribers who buys/drinks a lot of sparkling reds sent his back "Its a fair wine. A bit too sweet and simple. Not much length."

This seems to be a different wine though, maybe just the label, but the "high" price is different too. Not personally tempted to go for it.

Happy Friday afternoon fellow wine lovers:

No doubt most of you received the email about the new Art of War Shiraz release like I did. I had a call from my friendly Fo broker yesterday who was raving about how good The General was. He had just sampled it. So I have taken him on word and ordered my 6 Pack at $30 a bottle with free delivery. I will report back on the Nice Wines thread late next week on what I think ...

If as described it's from Wark Vineyard and made by Teusner then maybe it's a rebadged Teusner "Wark Family Shiraz 2014".
RRP $29 and available elsewhere for less.
Vinomofo $30??

Well, it's at least a different bottling run, the bottle shape is different...

I've only ever tried a few of the VM own-label reds, but I've not been tempted to go back for more.

I don't see any reason personally to bother with this when I can get Teusner Albert Shiraz for a bit over $40 and I know that is good.

Thanks JasonKing and RedBigot. I do hope I like it as I've just returned 2 boxes and the new The General 14 was acquired on credits, based on the broker's rave reviews. I don't mind if I haven't got the bargain of the Century - I get those often. If you can get it $5-$10 less under a different label - I don't care. So some you win, some you lose on that front. I just want to experience a $30 plus tasting red wine. If it's sub-standard, then it will be an embarrassing third return in as many weeks from me. I hope not.

VM gone a bit awol? Link takes you to a "Brand New" Coonawarra Shiraz. Any ideas?

It would help if you posted the link in question. If you're talking about the one three posts up, it goes to the 2014 Shiraz discussed. The year and varietal are in the URL, so it would be odd to the show a Cab Sauv on the page.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Today's Black Market Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 is interesting. The first wineries in the Coonawarra are only 120 or so years old, so the winery is presumably elsewhere. They say "the talented winemaking team trekked down south to get a slice of the action." And they're about 160 years old. So maybe Barossa? Being very loose with the 160 years would make the 5 red star contenders Saltram (est 1859) and Yalumba (est 1849). Neither make a Coonawarra Cabernet at $35. Penfolds is 170 years old but no joy there either.

Does anyone have any ideas?

,

Firstly hi to all, I'd say it looks like the By Geoff Hardy Pertaringa Regional Series 2014 . Can't get tasting notes to load so skanty at best but he has 160yrs behind the family and he's north at MCLAren Vale. Happy to be corrected...cheers
