Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Wow - that's a big call BeeFarmer! I hope you're right because I just got a case. FOMOMOFO.

Being a Cab Shiraz/Shiraz Cab and also a glenlofty/Pyrenees fan, I'm going to take a punt. Their website actually lists the 2009 Studio Ink at $30 per bottle ($360 per dozen).

I keep saying I'm going to buy the fox Gordon when it reappears (which it has), but this deal has my attention for now.

So my Glenlofty Cabernet turned up today and being the patient guy I am I cracked one this evening. Here are my first impressions. Deep red with a lightly perfumed but predominantly oaky nose. Medium bodied palate, some berries in the mix but with some seriously grippy, drying tannins. Would not be everyone's cup of tea with those tannins (pun intended). I think this wine needs time in the bottle and even then I wonder if the fruit will ever be enough to come to the fore, or if it will fade away before the tannins adequately soften. Lets see what a couple of hours open does to the wine.

I am guessing that a 24hr decantation is starting to alter it and you're going to let us know after 2 nights....

I started writing this when I found your original note starting from the earlier pages...I missed the middle and started backwards after the post,,,,,,,so I reckon I hit the nail on the head........try night 2 and 3. these Victorian wines are naturally higher in acidity which means them last longer, but are a little unapproachable young. It sounds like its a put away job, but do describe another nights decantation. They always say once a king always a king but once a knight is enough for a sip. is there any left for another night more importantly.

Has the Fo changed their money back guarantee?
pourqui le question mon ami ?

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Can't justify the price asked. Too big a risk given some previous highly discounted VM failures.

Hopefully no worry here beefarmer, I should have referred to Dr Ralph's comment.

I thought I may have missed a policy change or something that changed the current next to nil risk when buying from the Fo.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

As a slight diversion, the Bm mixed for 120 delivered freight free has to be considered surely??? I think VM are having a slower go of it lately hence the free postage offer.
By the way, on the facebook section of VM that I only enter via the lap tob, there are some great videos going. My fave is the eikman andre and fuzzy wuzzy sitting at penfolds inner sanctum with what initially looks like big art pieces behind them knocking back a few...seriously good tv, as is the one where for about 10 minutes they get the staff to talk about why they love wine. this is a really good chance to spot your broker, and the buyers. and the lovely customer staff team.....do yourselves a favour and watch it thru the computer scream.

well ladies and gents, its nearly time to think about the bm mixed, but also what lenses to take to the def leppard show tomorrow night. I would love to post a few but relating them to vinomofo deals could be tricky. Like Pour some sugar on me would be the lead sugar referring to getting his mate to pour innocent bystander moscato on his head....hmm, knowing what it really means, I don't think so. Love Hurts, a classic is time to discuss a great muscat I downed last week. Got it in a mixed, its a half bot, and it was sensational. From the suburbs of Adelaide I think it was, with an Italian name. I gave it 10/10 for its style, body, flavours and ease of drinking. Not sickly, just so Moorish, the half bot went very quickly. Now what about it. That's about that famous French champagne Legoppener. We could relate on and on about songs and their relevance to vinomofo, but the final correlation goes to one James Newell Osterberg Jnr, who not only likes to show off his part of the first band while on stage, but they lumped him with his first stage name. The vinomofo folks after watching their video surely have delevloped a lust for life turning into real wild childs.

Yarra Valley Pinot was a bust. Tasted like watery sugar free red cordial. Zero structure, zero depth. Will be going back tomorrow, it's junk. I would be ashamed to give it to anyone and call it wine.

On the other hand, drinking a Jones block Shiraz in celebration of the SO's final exam.

This wine is impossible. I'm sure there are way more out there like it and I am just starting to find the good stuff, but this is other level. How is it grapes?

Looking forward to this journey :)

Thanks for reporting on the "Premium" Yarra Pinot
Well I'm looking for a good value Pinot......and after your analysis..looks like I will still be looking...lol......

Yeah, I'm confident it's the Montevecchio Rosso. I got a dozen of the 2012, something a little different and a very good quaffer / food wine for the price, but it was rated 94 by JH; I haven't seen any reviews of the 2013.

The 13 is a bit pongy on the nose when you open it but once it settles is great pizza wine. I did prefer the 12 however.

Sorry mate, knocked it off while watching the end of Mitch. Like I said, it's not that its bad, its just not my preferred style and I believe it lacks the core fruit to ever overcome the oak/tannin.

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

On the red eye train this morning, and see us discount junkies might be tempted with an added bonus today:

On top of the Click Frenzy mof_ sale going on today, PricePal is giving you an additional 6.25% cash back. So that's (the usual good) mof_ discounts on their current (but selected) offers, with free shipping, and 6.25% cash back. Tempting for those that haven't quite pushed the button on one of the 40 deals. No doubt a clear out for some new deals coming around the corner in the festive buying season.

For me that would be the Devils Lair Margaret River Chardonnay 2013 (with 477 points!):

https://vinomofo.com/wines/white-wine/mof_-secret-deal-chardonnay-2013

On this example, you would usually pay $168.06 including delivery of $9 and 4% cash back. But today you get it for $155.72 with free delivery and 6.25% cash back. It's not a bad little saving considering the price is already nicely discounted.

Gee I'm a bit slow - I've been using pricepal and cashrewards but I didn't realise cash back was available from the FO - thanks Wozza

You are very welcome, Steady.

CashRewards
and PricePal both have mof_ on their list of stores, but the rates are nowhere near the levels we have been recently getting from WineMarket (today at 10% on one of them).

If I am only saving the odd $5 or $10 and/or the deal isn't on the website when I want to place the order, I usually don't bother and go straight through the broker. I am pretty impatient and really don't like the 3 month lag time to get the cash back on the smaller purchases. I suspect the regulars will say the balance adds up in the end and keeps on coming if you are making regular purchases.

+2 !

They are both good for the price, but I agree, the oak is too dominant on the GL (I think I said it was a bit green at the end). The Westward is much more balanced - what a great wine for the price.

100% agree. The Westward is a really big wine on day 1 but it settled well on days 2 and 3. Wasnt a fan of the Glenlofty Cab, a bit green for my tastes

Re: Vinomofo secret wine deals

Fascinating. I'd never heard of that. I'd pay $10 for tasting glass of such a thing. Not sure I'd take a punt on a whole bottle, let alone a six pack, even at this price. Obviously a divisive style, as Campbell Mattinson (who of course nowadays seems to himself be providing a good portion of the new reviews on the Halliday site) reviewed it a lot less favourably here: Thousand Candles 2011 | The Wine Front ... If I wanted to try an oddball wine on VM right now, I'd probably conclude I might as well go with that (presumed to be Chalmers) Italian Red Blend...

Looks like the Salvation case has a bottle included, for those looking to sample.

Yes, I saw that too. And I immediately thought - one opinion divider wine, which is intriguing - and 11 rejects!

Given there have been so many misses in the last 2 months:

I'm out

[in Dragons Den style]

Wow, Salvation cases are getting pricey. Get a bad mix these days and you are only getting 25% off cellar door prices.
