Anyone tried the Sandleford Shiraz yet? Thoughts?

Finished my case of 2010. Was nice but not as good as I recall the shiraz being - I was there in 2011 and absolutely loved the one I purchased - I think it was the 08 - I was bit disappointed with the 2010 as I was expecting a great wine, not a nice one.

I hope Wozza you are having a great time in Fiji, taking in Kids holidays no doubt.

I had a couple of pinots on the weekend, the adelaidean Riposte from the Fo Pinot pack. Nothing doing on opening, but after a couple of good hours, a fairly good, but basic drop.

Half way thru we got onto the yarra valleyans, Helen and joeys, layla pinot. Stunning is what a few of us thought. A bit unusual in that it had a stack of body, but the dark fruit together with good oak set it off....every drop was really good.
Then we went back and re-tasted the half bot of riposte and it had improved substantially. More fruit character evident, a bit of balance came into it. I see you can buy a case for $11. I look forward to the Tomich coming my way to see how it compares with the I-777. The tomichs have rebranded recently as I had one or two called hilltops from them. that was a beauty as well. I am hoping for three out of three from mr soilworks, randall tomich.

before I forget, one of the ladies on Saturday night used to be involved and owned a yarra valley winery-Hanrahans. Actually it was her fathers and she helped plant a lot of vines. There were several 2010 Shiraz's going and it is a beautiful drop. My mate actually built the barny cellar door at hanrahans years ago and most people won't probably know about the death of the main man and the bitter breakup afterwards. I wont bore you suffice to say that david the carpenter ended up with a lot of beautiful wine.
His wife and the winerys previous owners daughter are best of friends. The lady who now owns the show, ex flight attendant Beverley is one hell of a saleswoman.

Loving the the write up on the Pinots. I will be popping back to this note, so I can hunt out your recommendations.

I use it, and think you and I (and also Buzzard) are connected. I find it a useful second or third reference point before purchasing wines I am not 100% on. It's put me on notice of some near misses, and also some guidance on when to drink the older stuff.

Please let me know if others on this blog also want to connect. Unsurpringly I can be found on Vivino as: Wozza! And would love to connect so I can keep up with your opinions on what you are drinking.

Found Heirloom Tempranillo 2013, and price matches for a box of 12, but alcohol doesn't and possibly not a 5 star...

No, definitely not a 5 red star. Price is $40 for single bottle and website states "Only 100 dozen made and available from this store or our cellar door at The Salopian Inn only.", perhaps suggesting that there wouldn't be enough stock to ship off to Vinomofo?

The 20% discount for boxes of 12 caught my eye as it makes it $32 a bottle. A massive stretch but my google skills are weak

Heirlooms tempt is jh 95 pointer...normally that would be there as a feature, so hardys?

Hmmm the tempranillo is a hard one - I too thought it might be Heirloom but price doesn't match.

Just went through all the 5 red star wineries in Adelaide Hills but not many of them made tempranillo and if they did, price didn't match.

Anyone else got any ideas??

PS - tried the Sandalford 2010 Cab Sauv - lovely drop! Am waiting to try the Pinot from last week when it arrives.

I can claim no credit here, had no idea, but one of my subscribers found out.

It's a new wine, not reviewed or even on the web site of the producer, apparently they have 8 uncles picking the grapes and stomping them.
