Vinomofo Wine Deals

I can claim no credit here, had no idea, but one of my subscribers found out.

It's a new wine, not reviewed or even on the web site of the producer, apparently they have 8 uncles picking the grapes and stomping them.

Thanks RB. So are you hinting at a Fox Gordon Temp 2013? Fox Gordon have been on the Mo before with a blend that included Temp ...

So... I have been reading with a little blog envy as many of you guys say: My broker this. And my broker that. Blah, blah, blah!!!

And now, after diverting much of my wine budget to other sites this last month, I received an email from 'my broker'! She's called Sarah Lowes and she looks way too young and hipster for a geek like me!! She mentions being able to do deals offline, and can hunt for specifics I am after. Not all of you guys have been that positive about your 'broker'. I have been picking up - they have too many mouths to feed and satisfy these days.

So, posh - brokered up - mof_s ... what's the deal with the brokers then? How best to use them? Experiences? Tips? Warnings / cautions?

Supposedly a new Temp. from them, not a variation on the By George.

Good hint, RB. How do your members come up with the goods, when the wine in not listed on the Internet and is not rated? They seem to crack the really tricky ones.

Broker = salesperson. NEXT! (had to slip in a Seinfeld reference) :)

How to best use them? To alert you if stock of an item you wanted went out of stock and you hope it comes back into stock. But success has been hit & miss on that.

Warnings? Don't necessarily trust anything they offer. Again, broker = salesperson. It's highly likely they could be pushing stock they can't sell or has higher margin (for them). Better to trust us here. ;)

Agree with Electrotek: Broker has been useful to confirm what a black market wine actually is, but otherwise not particularly useful. None of the ones I've dealt with have had much actual wine industry experience.

I'd recommend Langtons if you're looking for brokers that have more wine experience.

Thanks Electrotek. Wise advice.

I didn't get that excited when I got the email. In fact, I hid it as my wife would not be impressed that a 20 something women (she looked pretty young in the picture) has reached out to her husband in cyber world trying to convince him to spend the family's hard-earned dough!

I could always test the water: what's the best deal that's come up in the last 6 months that has sold out where I could do with some inside help to get a case? ...

I thought the Paxton Jones Block 12 was one of my best buys recently. What a wine for the money, and so much potential to get better. Maybe also the Halliday Hero Pack (or just the Serrat 14 with its stupendous 99 points). All worthy challenges to put to my new credit card eating temptress.

Thanks AC (and nice to meet you briefly the other day). My business partner has a Langtons case seemingly turn up every other day, so know it must be a good website. Some of the best wines I have tried have been at the Langtons Top 100 wine tasting evenings. But every time I hit their site it intimidates me. Maybe I should try again. I don't see any of you posting to the DM and others blog or the Share a Case blog for Langtons deals, so guessing it's for the serious collector / connoisseur. Please educate me if I am wrong.

You got the answer, I can't / won't tell you how.
You may be able to guess why that is.

No, not what you obviously think....

I tell you what, thers only a few it could be and it is a very interesting one which after this, I still wouldn't know.

it aint heirloom....
it could be Jericho.
I don't think its a fox Gordon as there wines are 22.95....the blended George costs this much....so I would punt that a tempy by itself would also be 22.95.
just a quick note , but I didn't become enamoured with one of the reviews of a previous vintage-said it was a little thin.

good luck nevertheless, just thought I'd put my 9 cents in.

I could guess, and probably guess right. Happy with that, and glad we have you (and indirectly your members) to help with the Fo conundrum. Especially on the hard to crack ones. And glad you only seem to pipe in when we are off track or struggling.

Posts 5260 and 5268 tell you the answer.

It's a new wine, anyone can make up an RRP in a new wine appearing on VM for the first time anywhere.
