Vinomofo Wine Deals

You haven't worked out the VM (and some other merchants) claims for the "high price" are sometimes (often) a bit dodgy and should usually be ignored when assessing a wine deal?
I agree, for me it is about the value for money of the deal I'm buying. I know everyone wants the best bargain, however, surely it is a wine sight and it is about the wine right?

Yes of course, it's simply that I have too many $30+ wines now and need to be selective about what I buy in that price range - acknowledging that the difference between $30, $60 and $90 wines can be very subjective anyway.

Probably the worst example of fake discounts I've seen on VM was released today. $15 per bottle, claimed to be $35 from the producer: Matahiwi Estate Pinot Noir 2019

Here it is for sale from the producer, today, for $20 NZD (AUD $18.40) per bottle: Matahiwi Estate Pinot Noir 2019 - Matahiwi Wines

Discounted from $29 NZD apparently ($27.59 AUD) per bottle.

Not a $35 AUD in sight. Poor form.

The issue here is the standard VM form of words: " Full price $35.00 from the producer." They don't vary this at all despite being meaningless for imports that are not sold by anyone else in Aus.

I've discussed this with them by email at various times for other NZ wines and other imports, and for imports it really means "What would be the normal retail price in Australia if it was sold in the normal import/retail fashion rather than via us." So this allows for freight and Australian punitive taxes and WET on wines, you can't compare the top price easily with the price in the source country.

What matters is the selling price, is that significantly lower than the selling price in the country of origin? In this case the answer is still yes. And if you have access to wine-searcher Pro you can compare the selling price overseas with the price offered in Australia and in quite a few cases the prices on Euro and NZ imports are quite good.

Many merchants hype the high price and huge discount amount, just ignore most of that and look at the deal based on the low price. If you are into cheap Pinot that might actually be drinkable then the Matahiwi might just be the thing for you, I'd personally not buy it, but would most likely prefer it to most Adelaide Hills Pinot which usually do not suit my tastes.

Anyone else having issues with Aus Post delays from VM ebay store? Ordered Champagne NV - Black Market Deal #35512 1st of Sept. Get delays are happening, just wondered if over two weeks is expected. Cheers!

Ebay orders to ACT via Sydney are taking about a week for me, most recent one 5 days elapsed. There should be a tracking number you can check to see where it is.

Sitting in Sunshine (VIC) for 6 days now. Took a week from shipping details received to item processed at facility. Can't imagine it's good for the bubbles. At least we're not in Summer as yet. Thanks for the ACT perspective as a benchmark.

Going to where? Sometimes a long delay in one place can mean damage to the item. Or sometime not. You can lodge an enquiry online, through My Post if you have an account, that usually gets a response within a couple of days. VM used to respond quite quickly to messages on eBay, but recently have dropped the ball there, I had to call the usual VM contact line to get them to give the eBay person a nudge.

My last delivery from VM Port Melbourne to Eastern subrbs Melbourne was 3 weeks. Fathers day did not help. Ordered 19.08.2020 received 09.09.2020.

Going to Inner North of Melb (12km away). Sorry, could have included that. Cheers on the advice. My concern was a fault given the length of time in the AusPost warehouse. Will wait a day or two before lodging an enquiry.

Cheers Rug, gives me hope that there's nothing wrong with the plonk. Patience isn't my strong suit!

The wine will not suffer from being in a Melbourne Aus Post warehouse for a week or two at this time of year. Maybe you should be more worried about what Qantas warehouse it was sitting in for the preceding months. By accounts trickling through the wine seems to be in fine condition though.

Point taken. Alan Joyce surely looking after the wine personally?!

Deliveries in VIC have been very slow lately, with a number of my recent wine orders sitting at Aus Post depots for 10 - 14 days without moving. There is a huge volume of parcels at the moment and there have been decreases in the workforce to increase safety, so we'll all just have to bear it for the time being, unfortunately.

Melbourne is a huge bottleneck for Auspost. Couriers Please and Shippit are 1 week from SA and NSW. Too bad my VM delivery was not coming from interstate and not on Auspost.
