Vinomofo Wine Deals

I actually am looking very much forward to tasting this cool climate cabernet with its plethora of medals. Didn't that wine called think outside the circle also clean up in the awards which leads you to think what is going on out there. It won't be long before it will get an assessment and I will write a comment afterwards.

That Moppity Cabernet gets 89 from Gary Walsh on Wine Front. I must say I've always found Moppity's wines overrated.

Interesting you should say that Warlock, the only experience I've had with Moppity was buying a dozen of the Lock and Key Shiraz from Winecloud a while back, and just like the Mike Press Shiraz I purchased from them I couldn't see what the all the fuss was about (price notwithstanding)...not a bad wine just not very inspiring.

Ah, this wine critic called gary walsh,
Speaks only truthfully as nuffin' is false.
If his scoring system is anything like AC's,
Then all of his wines would be rated A or B.

As far as this Cabernet is concerned,
I thought it worth a punt.
If I don't like its flavour and if it's like a sauterne,
I will ring up my broker who will call me a ...........nuisance.

But that's why you buy those wines with the glitter,
Drink one now - the rest will be sitters.
In a decades time as I pull the rest out,
How good will this wine be as Crawf says "that's what I am talking about !'"

Best I could do folks before I head off to meet an interior decorator.
cheers.........to another good - I hope - vinomofo wine deal.

BF you're the Bard of Booze, the Poet Laureate of the Puncheon and it seems like you've got your keyboard bending notes like a Stratocaster but I just had to make one alteration to your verse (not that your Cab Sav is in this category)....

Have always been curious about the Malbec, let us know what you think once opened, at least the Glenlofty should be a reliable cheap quaffer although didn't think the same of the Capel Vale unfortunately...

It's almost as if the critics - who shall remain anonymous - have been tasked with aggressively marketing the burgeoning Hilltops region by over exaggerating the quality of the wines from its flagship winery....

Not really, it seems cooler-climate styles like Hilltops, Orange, Yarra, Mornington, etc and more "elegant" styles are finding more favour these days, at shows and with mainstream critics.

But I'm (happily) stuck in the rut of bigger/fuller styles of red, despite actually drinking some Pinot Noir these days, so I'm very careful with high-pointed reviews of these current favourite styles.

I guess like all these wines for all of us AFfers, it's case of suck it and see.

Because, Steel Panther said, and wrote, and sang, on Youtube, It Wont suck itself.

Happy to report I cracked my first bottle of maverick twins Shiraz tonight. It's a delightful wine much more enjoyable than the dromana estate Pinot I traded it for. I feel it will get better given a few years to settle down.

Anyone have any ideas on this? I couldn't find it in the thread and Cellary doesn't know what it is.

I think it's from the Moppity's stable as the other CabSav have heaps of medals/awards as well.
Just like Goldolphin stable which have heaps of runners for the Melbourne Cup but ended not the winner. :D

Ditto here visector, quite enjoyed it and the Maverick Cab Blend 2013 earlier in the week, both rebuys without doubt and excellent value. Given the Winery is reportedly for sale a wiser person should grab some more while stocks are available.

The Shiraz was the stand out of the two for us.

After some absence it is time to raise my ugly head again, hopefully contributing in a postive way.

2012 Hewitson Basham's Beach Tempranillo.

We had a little fun with this, mostly by accident actually. A bit of fluffing about with what glass to drink this out of and the conclusion was that the riedel shiraz and riedel cabernet glasses didnt do the wine as much justice as the riedel red 'O to Go', which is slightly more closed rimmed. Annoyingly I think Halliday's review is reasonably accurate, however I think drink this one young/fresh. Happy to pay $17 for this one in search of a decent Aussie tempranillo. My two pennies are below.

Drank straight from bottle after opening. Dark red cherries with undertones of white pepper. Savoury, a little dry, with finish cascading down and a little short. Not a typical varietal expression or a standalone wine, drink with food and not one to take too seriously. Enjoyable nevertheless but not worth it's RRP. Drink fresh over the next couple years.

Tastes vary….If I had bought a dozen they would be going back.. but I will quaff my way grumpily through the 6
