Were the crew okay with providing a soup starter for you? I’ve always wanted to ask but assumed it would be met with a big NO, and have considered asking if they would on those “supper” flights where only a main is offered. Noticed you had a starter and main on QF5 too!
Yes they were very happy to oblige. I have asked for this for years now. Always said I’d be happy with a cup to sample. That’s what I often got it in (including a takeaway cup or a tea cup). But recently it has been offered as a small bowl. So I’m guessing it is more common.

and negative feedback about presentation. Agree completely about the small flat plates as noted with my recent QF 40, food was tasty but sauce spilled everywhere @JimmyJ

Agree- it’s rather silly and how much can a little bit of soup cost? Though they are, admittedly, often the most tasty thing on the menu.

Oh, don’t get me started! For some reason, Qantas crew seems to think they are “unnevessary”. I often see them loaded but standing wrapped in the galley and not handed out- why? Is it that hard to pour some hot water over them and walk down the aisles once to hand them out?
That would be unusual for hot towels to be loaded, but not handed out. I’m not aware of hot towels being reintroduced for business, but in first, yes.
Yeah, potato fritters of some sort, a little dry so didn't finish them - have had so many not filling enough breakfasts on recent 738 flights ex PER, always fill up on the breakfast pizza in the lounge (a rare real enhancement) in anticipation of this - got caught out this time though. The sausages were the unexpected highlight, would not have been out of place on a decent German wurstplatte.
They’re the best thing on that menu. I’d be pretty upset to be one that missed out
