Is the 2014 BM Cabernet from WA the Chapel Vale 'cellar release'? Didn't mind the 2013

Yeah, except it doesn't seem very exclusive, unless you count VM as part of the cellar door:

Cabernet Sauvignon
Margaret River
2014
$33
$9.90
15/03/2016
Capel Vale Cellar Door Exclusive

Red 5 Star, Halliday Top 100, cellar door exclusive

Confirmed as the CW Ferguson :)
Hi Katy, you confirmed this as the CW Ferguson, how did you find out? This was the 'Houdini' deal right, if so I will buy if/when it comes up again. I understand others may not have preferred this to other premium Houghton's, but not many Aussie producers blend just these two Bordeaux grapes so opinions will be out to the jury I guess. Anyway I love the higher end Houghton wines, think their Wisdom Cabernet is right up there with Wynns black label.

If anyone ends up grabbing the 2014 Capel Vale Cabernet I would love to hear thoughts on it. Will probably be around for half the year like the previous vintage!

It was pretty much identified on March 19th when it was first offered and those that ordered then have received delivery a while ago now.

Yes, been offered before:
Sparkling NV Yarra Valley NV $35 $12.50 08/03/2016 Better Half #7873 Boutique producer

Has anyone tried it? I'm on the hunt for a good sparkling around the $10ish/btl range and the Taylors that pops up for around $11 is the only other real option I have at the moment.

Out of curiosity.. And I'm new to this forum.. Thoughts on top three reds offered on VM in the last year?

im assuming the Gundagai Shiraz makes the cut?

I'd say value for money as that's what I'm looking for on VM? Say upto price range of $20 a bottle in terms of what we actually pay, not RRP

its not VM, but sign up to Dan Murphy club and you can get 2 pack of Sieur d'Arques Grande Cuvée 1531 de Aimery and Sieur d'Arques Première Bulle Brut for $16.99.
Spectacular pricing.

$20 is a bit tricky, as i think some of the best stuff VM have had has been over that price. Here's some that are close to, or under, $20 which I think have been really good:

- Wynns Black Label Cab Sauv 2012 (@$22.50)
- Parous 2010 McLaren Vale shiraz ($19.90)
- Willoughby Park Kalgan Ironrock Chardonnay ($22)
- Hewitson Mad Hatter 2012 ($22)
- Fox Creek Fox and Hounds Cab Shiraz 2013 ($8.70)
- Jeanneret Westwood We Went Cab Malbec 2013 ($8.10)
- Bleasdale Generations 2012 ($18.90)
- Erin Eyes Pride of Erin Reserve Riesling ($19.90)

Depends what floats your boat.

Two of my best purchases were in 2011, both of older Yarra Loch wines which have been drinking superbly in the years since.

2006 Yarra Loch Pinot Noir [-]$30[/-] $16.50 ($18.00 with delivery)
2006 Yarra Loch Stephanie's Dream Cabernet Sauvignon [-]$40[/-] $24.00 ($25.66 with delivery)

Both got 94 Halliday points, but to be honest with Halliday's recent generosity these wines are both better than a lot of his recent 94 point wines.

In the last 12 months, not sure if there is much which has got me really excited.

The 2015 Homeless Grapes Project actually has a lot of potential. I tried 2 btls this past weekend and it is very "young" but definitely will grow into a very nice McLaren Vale Shiraz, and for $15 a bottle (free shipping) represents great value IMHO. I will try another one in a few years.

Anything from Brokenwood has been great (and great value) - Semillon, Shiraz. Some good gems from Margaret River also - Cab Merlot, Cab Sauv, Shiraz.

And a huge amount of plonk.

Haven't got any of them AC.

I guess that's the scale of VM now, there is so much stuff that just flys by. (even if you do the odd mixed case).

Hey Katy,

I've had Better Half wines before, the chardonnay (bought for the mother in law) and the pinot noir (arrived in a mixed case). Both were very disappointing so I'd be giving it a miss. With regards to sparkling, I've had the Nua proseco (around $12/bottle and they often have it even when it's not advertised, just ask a broker) or the Bisou Bisou ($15/bottle a VM collaboration which they always have available). Although I'm not normally a sparkling drinker, both have been well received.
