Re: Mitolo Cantiniere

There are a lot of inconsistencies.
If you look at the GAM and Savitar, both 2012 currently, bottled in October 2014 and Angela's Block 2013 bottled in September 2014 (But probably September 2015 as "Aged in fine grained oak, predominantly hogsheads (10% new: 90% old French Oak) for 18 months.").

But then the Cantiniere specs say "Aged in fine grained oak, predominantly hogsheads (10% new: 90% old French Oak) for 14 months."

So in August/September or even earlier they would be doing final barrel checks on 2013 vintage reds before blending to tank for bottling.

Let's hope it was just VM buyer persuasion to do an exclusive wine for them and not the least of the barrels from those destined for Angela and GAM.

Hopefully VM are smart enough not to stuff up on a major scale by over-hyping a lesser wine in collusion with Mitolo.

But stranger things have happened, I once saw a wine blended from leftover components of two medal winning wines that was claimed to have won all the numerous medals of the component wines when in reality it was a completely different wine and had won none.

Hmmm, hopefully. I guess the truth will be in the tasting...

Yeah, that was back in the early days, I haven't looked lately, Tony Sells and I had a brief period of warfare way back until we mutually agreed not to communicate any more.
Ah yes I remember it well.

I think many people were totally put off by the GWD model, its partially them I was referring to when I talked about no one being successfully prosecuted over RRP claims. I do seem to remember there were some fairly outrageous claims they made (or at least it was a common view they were outrageous) without any hint of enforcement by authorities.

Re: Mitolo Cantiniere

Yes well that was why I suggested they would have sold off some at the RRP.

Of course I would have to say the RRP and "street" price are poles apart. Maybe I'm wrong but I've never seen any news of a successful prosecution over RRP, perhaps precisely because it's a "recommended" price. One for the lawyers but I'm pretty sure there is also law which stops the wineries/wholesaler forcing retailers to actually sell at the price they set (i.e. price setting), hence why it is called an RRP not an RP.

It doesn't stop some producers/wholesalers "making a phone call' to ask the merchant to bump up the price a little (possibly including threat of non-supply). Usually after they get calls from other merchants complaining about a particularly low price.

Happens often still even after nearly 40 years of being "illegal" under the TPA and successor acts.

The magic key words are (or used to be, haven't looked in detail recently) "Don't Pay $xx_", generally no mention of it being RRP or sold elsewhere at the high price.

Re: Mitolo Cantiniere

Maybe they think having it listed on their web site at that price fulfils the obligation, maybe it was briefly not "sold out".
But that's me just being cynical after watching wine sales machinations for 50 years.

Not quite as smart as Get Wines Direct when they took over the Colonial Estate brand, they maintained the old web site actually offering the wines for sale at up to $200pb so they could legitimately claim 80% discounts on their own site.

Many years ago I went down to the Richmond store wanting and yearning to try one of their two hundred dollar reds that was being spruiked for twenty dollars. Like an excited schoolboy I placed the glass rim to my lips, gently allowed the nectar to fall in and coat my taste buds and swirl around the small gaps between my teeth as if little whirlpools and eddies were being created to allow me to slowly, carefully, tantalisingly, mills and boony , savour the flavours......of what really was a ten dollar cheapie. Very disappointed. Left with nothing--luckily never to return. Caveat emptor.

Ah but if you want some freebie tasting it's a good place. Help yourself to what's on offer.

Re: Mitolo Cantiniere

Can anybody confirm if the Helen and Joey Layla 2013 is the same one the wine front rated at 84 points and $29 rrp. Just not 100 % sure ?

The ACCC are getting the knives out more often for flagrant breaches of the various consumer laws that are there to protect the Average Joe from naughty marketing practices. If enough complaints come in, then the ACCC will investigate and they will take heavy action if they see breaches. The retail wine industry is a big enough target. The online retailers and the wineries need to be careful.

I'll have to take that statement on notice! The ACCC haven't got a great record in this area (in fact abysmal is a better word), while they have talked up increased action I for one have yet to see substantive and effectual governance take place. But we are all entitled to differing views on this.

sooo... i went onto the sale tonight right as it started and clicked the sale link and all the deals were on there, but when you clicked on any it wet 404 page not found.

considering last time it was you had to wait 4 hours as they released then every 15 min i quickly screenshot them incase they disappeared.
anyway, these are the 16 deals, confused how two are sold out considering they only went live literally 3 minutes beforehand..
