Vinomofo Wine Deals

Re: Mitolo Cantiniere

Just a few thoughts. I am in the "Bulls rush" as well.
The Mitolo flagship is Savitar which can be had for $30 from rrp $80 (vintage 2007) not too long ago.
This new Cantiniere is thus not flagship (rrp $68).
The Cantiniere is made from the Chinese block (GAM $58) and Sandra's Block (Angela $35).
The sum is greater than the individual blocks. Is that logical?

Have been seeing a few special editions/releases from 5 stars producers listing on Vinomofo soon after release and
"sold out" on producers own site.
Examples:Haselgrove special release batch 187, Fox Gordon 8 Uncles Tempranillo.
As I mentioned before is this a new "method" on Vinomofo collaboration labels.

Producers release a special edition for VM and sold only through VM and "sold out" on their sites.
In this way no harm done to their mail order clients.

Good pickup. If I was a regular from their site I'd be wondering how a wine bottled in September 2015 was sold out in September 2015.

Special bottling, not really sure why they put on their website except maybe for people like us googling it!

Yeah, special Vinomofo bottling. ;)
If it's mof_ own label would it create so much interest, talk, rush to buy ...?

500 cases only. Is that 1000 6-packs? $120K potential sales.
Bottled Sept 2015 and right away to Vinomofo with 70% off !! :)

They probably release 10 dozen at retail to justify the RRP, maybe to their long suffering members. Wouldn't that p*** them off!

Strange that it was bottled in Sept 2015, when the website says it was aged for 14 months in new (10%) and aged French oak hogsheads. It's a 2013 vintage - allowing for fermentation and even a late harvest, bottling in September 2014 sounds closer to the mark. The arithmetic doesn't seem to add up, or is there something I've missed?

On another note, does anyone know anything about the Fox Gordon Brothers & Sisters Cabernet? Doesn't seem to be much info out there about it...

Great forum - I too am a recent member, long time browser. Who would have thought being part of an online wine forum could be so much fun! :)

Without being too specific on their winery, the hannahs swing and the George blend are very well made wines but there would be plenty here who have tried the others. Anyone have a bad word at all?

There are a lot of inconsistencies.
If you look at the GAM and Savitar, both 2012 currently, bottled in October 2014 and Angela's Block 2013 bottled in September 2014 (But probably September 2015 as "Aged in fine grained oak, predominantly hogsheads (10% new: 90% old French Oak) for 18 months.").

But then the Cantiniere specs say "Aged in fine grained oak, predominantly hogsheads (10% new: 90% old French Oak) for 14 months."

So in August/September or even earlier they would be doing final barrel checks on 2013 vintage reds before blending to tank for bottling.

Let's hope it was just VM buyer persuasion to do an exclusive wine for them and not the least of the barrels from those destined for Angela and GAM.

Hopefully VM are smart enough not to stuff up on a major scale by over-hyping a lesser wine in collusion with Mitolo.

But stranger things have happened, I once saw a wine blended from leftover components of two medal winning wines that was claimed to have won all the numerous medals of the component wines when in reality it was a completely different wine and had won none.

It's the Fun Police here (aka another lawyer, I hear you sigh)!

If the wine is not specifically retailed at the RRP, and never has been, then there are some obvious breaches of law. I am not suggesting this has in fact happened, as I am not privy to all the facts, but if it wasn't retailed at the RRP then the winery and also the Fo could opening themselves up for some trouble. Both companies are legit in my eyes and would know their legal obligations, so I doubt this is the case.

Looking forward to trying it...

Yes, and the analysts still suggest that the internet's most common use is for cough - this site shows that this is not true doesn't it?2287255428_a680917d4a_z.jpg

I asked whether if the FG Brothers & Sisters wines were made for VM, roundabout answer seems to be no, but they do seem to be exclusive to VM.
So maybe more producers are getting smarter and proactively doing special wines intended for VM that are not on their regular line of products so those can maintain a better price-point on the regular lines.
But the nominated RRP on these sort of wines has to be very suspect.

Maybe they think having it listed on their web site at that price fulfils the obligation, maybe it was briefly not "sold out".
But that's me just being cynical after watching wine sales machinations for 50 years.

Not quite as smart as Get Wines Direct when they took over the Colonial Estate brand, they maintained the old web site actually offering the wines for sale at up to $200pb so they could legitimately claim 80% discounts on their own site.

Re: Mitolo Cantiniere

I have tried 3 of the reds from Fox Gordon and very happy with all of them.
However recently bought some 2002 models off Grays and they were past it.

The Exile is now $30 from rrp $60 and not $200 any more.
BTW the FU Shiraz is $40 from $300. Is this label still by Chris Ringland? Anyone tried this before?

Yes well that was why I suggested they would have sold off some at the RRP.

Of course I would have to say the RRP and "street" price are poles apart. Maybe I'm wrong but I've never seen any news of a successful prosecution over RRP, perhaps precisely because it's a "recommended" price. One for the lawyers but I'm pretty sure there is also law which stops the wineries/wholesaler forcing retailers to actually sell at the price they set (i.e. price setting), hence why it is called an RRP not an RP.

I agree - I enjoyed their By George Cab Tempranillo and the Fiano - thought they were both very good for the Fo price so have rolled the dice on the Bros and Sisters as well, notwithstanding the "VM exclusive" reservations.

Googling revealed it's not a new label (unlike Mitolo Cantiniere).

Hear hear. Although I see the Angela is named after the mother and the GAM after the kids . . . so talk of the child from Angela and GAM is getting a little Freudian.

Yeah, that was back in the early days, I haven't looked lately, Tony Sells and I had a brief period of warfare way back until we mutually agreed not to communicate any more.
