How do people position for this run (if you're SYD based) ? I had a look at it and I basically couldn't work out the two things to make it work for me - how to be there (and return) and how to make the $$s work out as I just couldn't see the prices others are seeing for the dates I could travel and especially to add in the positioning costs.

I booked as a multi city. HBA to DUD then DUD to SYD also comes out at around $1400. Although you will need to add a cheap Y to get to HBA. Slightly less SCs but will save you a leg paying to get back from HBA. There was also a price increase around July I think so book in June or earlier for that price. Hope that helps!

Hi,
Anyone know if date changes will affect the double status promo?
i.e. if i book a freedom fare today for travel in march, but then have to change to april with the same PNR?
Couldn't find anything in the conditions.

You're fine as the new date of travel is still within the eligibility period (see bolded text below).

Are you sure? Don't mean to say you're wrong but it doesn't specifically mention changes of date. I guess the only way to read it is the way you've done...

Id say probably not. I changed one of my flights booked (a day forward) under the triple points promo, and only got standard points for the new flight.

Anyone else noticing (as I did) that they can't register kids for this:
I registered both wife and 2 year old daughter last night and both appear to have come back registered successfully.

So if it is silent on those conditions in the T&C's (the published rules of the promotion), then they can't say they are excluded - thus they must be included.

Let me say it another way. They must state in the T&C's the eligibility or otherwise in order to rely on that defence in the event that there is a dispute (that a simple date change or even flights deny the access to DSC's - even if all other conditions remain met). If your date changes are still within the eligible dates, how do they deny?

Thanks for the advice! Fingers crossed no need to date change, but i'll keep the argument in mind in case

Thinking about jumping in at the last minute. Somewhat struggling with the idea of the cost even though it's only ~$2.50-$3/SC and some in business...first world problems :)

I'll post the T&C's of the promotion as they are written here:

Do you think booking Via Flybuys Travel will be an issue. MEL to HKG J is $700 cheaper than on the VA website.

Just booked MEL to OOL Via Sydney (Freedom) and OOL to MEL VIA Sydney (Business) for $1000 for 320 SC's = $3.125

Not the best value run people have found, but it will get me requalified and only in a day.

If you're willing to start in NZ AKL-xx_-ADL for nzd789 for (80x2) + (50x2) = 260 DSC for 3.03c/sc
Or AKL-xx_-NTL for nzd685 for 260sc = 2.63c/sc
AKL-xx_-LST for nzd692 for 260sc = 2.66c/sc
Maybe $15 more out of WLG/CHC.

Cheaper if you use a promo code I guess.
Basically business sc runs one way to wine regions. :) Returns or Aussie origins were expensive!
Bit late but I didn't look until this morning. But might be useful routes in future. They actually had some great pricing on through to Perth but not as worthwhile as a status run.

I called the Platinum line today on another matter and also asked the question. I don't think they have been really trained on the T&C's she kept referring to other ones like needing to activate and be on VA metal... etc. Anyway she seemed to think changes to bookings made within the promotion period were fine up to today but when I asked what if I book today and then need to change it later before I fly she said: "I can't guarantee that you will get it".

Just booked MEL to OOL Via Sydney (Freedom) and OOL to MEL VIA Sydney (Business) for $1000 for 320 SC's ...
I booked MEL-CBR-OOL for $264 & 100 SC with OOL-SYD-MEL for $282 & another 100SC.

It only costs 4900 Velocity to upgrade each segment.

Other than that, I'll have enough travel, along with Flybuys to requalify WP before May 2020.

Thanks for that. That’s a good one, and it’s usually the same aircraft ops MEL/CBR/OOL. Ties in well with the JQ Flight back at 10pm which is often on Friday frenzy offers.
