Vaccine Rollout in Australia - personal accounts.

What's the view on the flu shot this year?
Ive done it probably the last 10 years - but with very little international movements, is it even going to be a thing this year?

Just got the heads up from work about this today myself. I am in a mixed mind as well, however considering it is supremely unlikely any Phase 2 vaccinations begin by the end of April, I might go for it. Remember it is 14 day wait between COVID jab and Flu jab.

That’s excellent news - you were able to request the Pfizer?
Didn't have to request Pfizer. It was allocated to me when I called to make the appt, maybe because I'm 1b on 2 counts, age and chronic health condition.
Anyway, had it just ahead of the appt time, and barely felt anything - still aok, but then not even tetanus shots cause me any pain.
Got a message, while waiting to be released, telling me 2nd shot was booked for 3 weeks hence, but a bit early in the am so changed appt to closer to lunch-time on the way out.
Interestingly the AZ facility next door did not seem to be as busy.
All in all a well run exercise.

My 92 yo relative who lives in Curtin ACT was disappointed to be told last week by the local surgery 'no vaccine appointments available, try again in mid to late April'. I'm going to pass on some of the tips from this thread about where ACT vaccines can be had.

I have a provisional booking now for next week, waiting for confirmation.

I checked with my local GP and they are not (yet) involved. Used Health Direct, went through the assessment which said yes I am eligible. When entering my postcode the nearest vaccination centre (GP) is in the adjoining suburb. They use HotDoc for booking, so made one. As I said, not yet confirmed.

Does AZ have the same response? It jogs a memory. The first vaccination of infants at 2 months I never remembered to be a big thing. Little reaction. But I did think that later immunisations for the same virus did become more difficult.
Some more stories on reactions to second jabs - Pfizer does seem more likely to have an effect after the second jab than the others

I had my first AZ shot yesterday lunchtime. 12 hours later, woke up feeling odd, somehow both hot and cold at the same time, with elevated heart rate and mild headache. Did not sleep well. Still feeling a bit weird now so I'm glad it's not a work day. I wouldn't say I feel terrible, just a bit off. I'm in 1b due to work, not due to age or health condition. I was at least a good couple of decades younger than most of the people at the surgery getting their shots yesterday.

Second dose completed of the Pfizer.

Was on holidays at the 21 day mark, so second dose was on day 27 at around 0900 in the morning.

Dead arm as usual later that afternoon.

A colleague of mine called in sick for a night shift, so I covered that and worked through it without any problems whatsoever.

After having a 4 hours sleep the next morning, and rudely awaken by children, I had an incredible headache and felt lethargic for the rest of the day. Arm was also quite sore, with some soreness in my axilla and left side of my neck/jawline.

Difficult to pin point if it was vaccine or night shift/no sleep related, but after a good nights sleep the following night, feeling 100% now.

Regarding AstraZeneca experiences, anecdotally a hospital in the far east of Victoria vaccinated 120 staff in one day, the following day 43 needed to call in sick (36 nurses, 7 doctors).

All in all, would rather have these temporary unpleasant feelings than getting COVID.

Forgot to mention, the following morning after the second dose I got an email from myGov saying my COVID-19 immunisation status has updated.

Logged in and first option is to download immunisation history and this is what is shows:

My parents both had first dose of AZ yesterday and reported no issues.

Out of curiosity I just went to take a look at my own immunisation status and its blank, I havent had Covid-19 but Ive had a heap of vaccinations over the last 20 years due to travels and none show up. Obviously yellow travel card is still more accurate.

Husbands profile shows multiple vaccinations, flu over a couple of years, Whooping cough, DPT etc which we had at the same time, but mine only shows last years flu and now AZ.

Where did you look? If it’s not under your Medicare record on line, then contact the clinic and find out why it’s not there.

Edit: sorry, it’s probably obvious from the post above yours. I’d check out why it’s not there.

AstraZeneca on Tuesday. Only side effect is slightly sore shoulder if I lie on that side. Next dose due 29 June. The vaccination was so painless I wasn't too sure it had been done!

My 95yr old mother had her 2nd dose on Tues. Bit of a sore arm this time, no soreness after 1st dose.

Interesting. My annual flu shots are all showing for the previous 5 years.
