Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

These days on the day I fly I put in a claim for missing points and they're usually in my account 2-3 days later.
Did an experiment for flights from the 20th May, same flights, same info, I put a missing points claim in, mum did not. My SC and points posted 2 days later. Mum's didn't.

I had flights on the 20th (VA), 24th (VA), 25th (SQ) and 27th (SQ). The flights on the 24th would put me over the line for SG, however 25th SQ flight posted first, followed by the 20th VA flight then the 27th SQ flight. Still waiting on the 24th VA flight.

Honestly what is the deal with VA?

I'm guessing I'm going to have to contact VA to fix my points so that the flights on the 25th and 27th don't get "lost" as far as counting for requalification is concerned.

Re: Posting of points

I did a missing points claim to speed up the process, only to find the system cannot multiple by 5. $165 fare times by 5, should be 825 points, right? Instead get 842 points, plus 17. the return leg, $129 = 645 - get 628 (645-17). Why the random 17 points?

Another example same flight cost combination and the first leg gave 735 points. $165+$129 times by 5 is 1470. and 1470 divided by 2 is 735. Ok so a bit lateral but they've just pooled the total fare. Then it got worse after 9 days I missing points claimed the return flight - credit 628 (so the 645 -17) version. So now I have to call to get either the 735 changed to 842 or the 628 changed to 735. Don't even know how to start explaining the problem.

I did not realise that 5 times tables were so hard.

Re: Posting of points

I put in a missing claim - as suggested in the other thread - so not sure which prompted the points to turn up, time delay or points claim. Took 7 days.

That is really slow Virgin.

Next question, if l then jump to Gold status, and it takes 7 or so days for status to turn over, and l fly in that time, will Virgin honor the points made in that time as a Gold or keep it as Silver. Technically, you have gone up status, Virgin's slowness to post points doesn't help the situation...

That's weird! The norm with return flights is indeed that they calculate the total number of points you are due for the return trip, and credit you with 50% for each leg. For example, if you have a $200 fare outbound and a $300 fare inbound, they treat it as if it was $250 each way. No idea why they do that, rather than awarding points based on the actual fare for each leg, but that is what has happened with every flight that I can remember.

I guess the missing points claims are treated as separate bookings when processed. but that doesn't explain the random 17 points difference.

Re: Posting of points

Possibly someone has fixed things. A flight Tue arvo posted automatically overnight.

Re: Posting of points

8 days and counting for a VA operated flight. What's the point of advertising that they review your points daily for status calculation when they can't get the damn thing to post in the first place.

I often find that the totals for return flights are correct, but there are odd differences in the two flights.

I think its the way fares work in the background. On a return they can be slightly different in the two directions due to differences in airport taxes depending on which direction you fly. We see an averaged version of that.

Yep, your post is spot on.

Flew on Monday, still nothing. Will put in a points claim tonight.

Re: Posting of points

I'm seeing slow points posting as well now:

MEL-SYD 24 May Elevate (no credit)
SYD-MEL 25 May Elevate (no credit)
SYD-OOL 29 May Elevate (no credit)
OOL-SYD 30 May Freedom (credited on 1 June

Could there be something to Freedom class posting faster?

My 3 flights were one each of Freedom, Elevate and Getaway. All took 8 days.

Don't think so. I fly mainly on Freedom and mine are taking 7+ days to post (if they post at all). What a farce.

Don't know how I missed this thread but I have had the same problem with flights posting.. I am seeing the time taken to credit (domestic) flights to my account now at 10 days....

Case in point, last months flights BNE/SYD/BNE took 10 days yet BP and Amex transactions are within 2 days:

Now up to 7 day from an outbound BNE/NTL flight (plus family pooling to credit as well) - nothing showing. Had to put in a retro claim because aim not waiting any longer - they need to know w aren't happy with this tardiness.

QF can post within hours of flight (as they did on a recent BNE/ADL and BNE/CBR flights), or at latest a couple of days for all other transactions.

Glad I've re-qualified VA Gold already 4 months early with only 1 booking still in the system - now to head back to the Red Roo and hasten my way towards Lifetime Gold.

My flights finally posted - I'd like to think it was the hurry along of lodging a retro claim as they posted the day after...just saying  :

None of my retro claims have been processed (they're still sitting there online). I've had to call up to have the SCs and points manually added a week or two later. The process looks like this:

Travel -> ----- Wait ------> Retro claim -> ----- Wait ------> Call up

gg VA

My retro claim posted the day after, not sure if it was the claim itself or the 10 day SLA that seems to be the norm these days

Now to get them to fix my SCs that should have counted for re-qualification but didn't because they went into a black hole after being posted out of order.

Sigh.
