Not bad - at least this may open up some availability for some business class reward seats to the U.S. (currently an area where Qantas severely lacks availability).

Congratulations for the new partnership, which means now there should be a lot more seats available to Asia, and for many, you can change at Manila for super cheap Qatar Airways or Etihad to Europe.

I further hope Qantas can partner with Vietnam Airlines and Koreanair, which having similar growth profile for Australian travellers, will make Qantas the most valuable FFP in Asia Pacific.

It was meant to be live at 2pm, but Qantas have confirmed that it'll be live "later today"
Certainly nothing ex Oz on the new tool out to 15 May 2027 - only QF/JQ up and including 15 May 2027.

Will we also see some codesharing?

The existing rumour mill for PAL joining OW is probably getting more traction!

Availability should be online now, the tool would be slightly delayed as that requires a refresh:

Can see why the rumour mills are running given both Avios and QFF have started working with PR. I think AS does too since last year?

as well as various arrangements with AA, AS/HA, MH, CX and JL.

This might be useful to my Filipino dad. Hopefully opens up another avenue for also getting home from Asia to Australia via awards.

I realise that spending points on Y is not necessarily the best value, but let's see. Australia/Philippines fares can be surprisingly expensive.

I wonder what the existing PR availability is like, viz. mainly for Mabuhay Miles members. That is, if the award pool isn't getting any bigger and now there are PR, QR and QF customers competing for it, this could fizzle into a non-event. On the other hand, if PR wasn't exactly being redeemed like there's no tomorrow, that genuinely does mean there are more options out there (probably to help placate changes to the QF programme). Of course, there are likely many Filipinos who have QF accounts; they will be going like crazy to snap up any awards there are.

One can hope, but VN and KE are already Skyteam partners. I realise that doesn't lock them out of making a deal with Qantas, but as much as it is pessimistic against a genuinely good outcome, I don't like the chances.

I'm actually curious how this "partnership" got off the ground, i.e. who started it and what on either side made it so interesting to make it happen.

I suspect that PR redemption on Business Class is not available on Qantas.

I don't understand why routes like this would have no business class available for all days.

Seems like there's deliberate blackout.

There’s already good QF CR availability (including J).

The only caveat is the threat of more QF narrow body / recliner seats flights until the lieflat seats arrive.

Wouldn’t you take CX anyway?

You might be onto something there. So much for the article's claim of, "Economy, Premium Economy and Business".

Maybe it's very selective routes that will have anything but Economy availability.

My sample search for BNE-MNL also shows higher taxes on the PR redemption than a QF redemption (along with a higher points cost).

I also forgot to consider that as QF will have access to PR space, PR (Mabuhay Miles) members will have access to QF space. Only fair, but damn, more competition for the seats.......

That’s not uncommon for non-OW partners eg not all sectors on AF/KL are available to QF (but some quirky ones are eg KL SCL<->EZE).

The taxes will be identical but QF are passing on the PR imposed “fuel fines” / carrier charges. No surprise that they require more points also.

They probably see the opposite - more points to use QF over PR.

I had a look at some redemptions with Avios and seemed like not great value considering how dirt cheap revenue PR J fares can be.
Another good reason why it will be good when they come to OW.

The standard lower earn is offset by the cheap price.

If domestic PR fares become open for redemption, these might be nice either on their own or tacked onto another sector as a single ticket.

Domestic Philippines fares can be rather expensive at times.

The fly in the soup might be whether PR Y redemption fares include baggage (and how much), because IIRC the cheapest PR Y fares have no checked baggage included.

Makes sense the points are higher, as they are a partner award.

A bit odd that the PR fuel fines are more than QF's. Might be a sign of the current times, but still odd. Overall, looking at the same BNE-MNL sector I randomly searched, if I had a choice between PR Y or QF Y, notwithstanding my status I'd probably take QF Y for the lower cost overall. PR's product wouldn't be vastly superior compared to QF.

It might be better to take PR if you were on a connection, e.g. domestic to one of the island destinations in the Philippines, assuming you could redeem it all on one ticket. Not only would you be protected, but you'd also be in the same terminal - terminal transfers at MNL aren't fantastic (surprisingly they are getting better).

It's a shame that PR don't fly from CEB to Australia. My Dad is always aching for a direct flight to CRK (or at least an option that doesn't cost an arm and a leg), since it's much closer to his village than MNL, but that won't happen (but a two legger from CEB would probably be just as good).
