Quick question. Currently booked in premium economy on QF11 thinking to put in an upgrade request. Does anyone know if its possible to try and request an upgrade to first through the call centre? Online only has option of upgrade to J. Otherwise I will hope for the elusive op-up... ;)

I can't recall seeing an option to upgrade to F from Y+. I fear you may be out of luck. :(

Yep. That's what I thought.. I haven't seen it as an option before but thought I might ask.. I'll call on Monday and see if they can "work some magic..." ;)

It's a one class upgrade. Y to J, J to F.

But when Y+ was introduced, a Y to Y+, Y to J and Y+ to J upgrade was allowed.

Apologies if this doesn't belong here. I have a question about upgrades and it seemed a waste to make a whole new thread. This is just a hypothetical question at this point. I don't have any travel planned at this point in time.

What is more likely to be successful on say a SYD or MEL to DXB (connecting to LHR)?

1. Buying a ticket in Y and requesting a points upgrade to PE.
2. Obtaining an award booking in PE.

Do these both come out of award availability?

you can't really compare the two. They are two different things. Do you have QF WP status? If not. Your chances of a points upgrade are pretty low? Plus you need to buy a flexi fare? To be eligible for points upgrade?

If you want a PE seat. Buy it or find an award fare. Don't bank on an upgrade on such a popular route.

An award seat is confirmed when booked, so in that sense, it's "easy" to get since you know it's there. For an upgrade, you can only put a request in, and then it will be considered 24 hours to 1 week before flight departure, depending on your status. Quite a few people like to refer to this as a lottery, and in some ways, I think they're not far off the mark.
