UK Premium Economy - upgrading to Business

BA do cash airport upgrades and SYD-LHR would have been within your budget of 3K (believe it's closer to 2K); but I guess too late now.

Of course there's no guarantee seats would be available.
 
@MikeG , lets step back ...

You are going to need to research:

  1. What carrier on this route have PE?
  2. What methods are there to upgrade on these carriers?
  3. What means do you have to upgrade on these carriers (points/$$$).
  4. Likelihood of the upgrade being successful (Fare bucket loadings, award availability)?

Given your planned outbound is only a month away you need to get cracking.
