"TrouserGate" - Australian Cricketers Caught Ball Tampering

I fail to see whys we hold cricket to higher standards than we do our misdemeaning parliamentarians.

Probably because cricket has historically anyway been seen to be a "gentlemans" game.
Politicians - they are consistently below car salesman in the trustworthy stakes - essentially last. Not far in front are the media

And of course there was the following article on Cricinfo late last month:

Not only is David Warner intent on captaining Australia at every opportunity, the opening batsman has also flagged the possibility of a career in politics once he retires.

Wouldn't touch him with a barge-pole

This is could get even uglier if that's possible , Michael Clarke tweeting not all is at it seems ,

"Too many reputations on the line for the full story not to come out. Cape Town change room is a very small place!" &

"The truth, The full story, Accountability and Leadership- until the public get this Australian cricket is in deep cough!"

Maybe there is more to Michael Clarke’s retirement than we thought.

Well I am glad that Sutherland, Roy and Howard have conducted the investigation and made what I believe are suitable initial action. Decisive and will make anybody thinking of doing anything similar in the future, think again.

CA findings: Burning questions answered

Was a bit surprised to hear that Joe Burns and Glenn Maxwell are also on their way over. But happy that they were the first to know and then the public.

I want to stress that we are contemplating significant sanctions in each case," Sutherland said. "These sanctions will reflect the gravity with which we view what has occurred and the damage it has done to the standing of Australian cricket. I fully understand the appetite for urgency for more detail however urgency must be balanced with due process given the serious implications for all involved.”

Nicely said James, my faith in CA undiminished. The 3 players involved have a long road to travel. Bet they are now wondering why they thought it was worth it?

Trio suspended by Cricket Australia

"Earlier today (Tuesday), I received an update about the investigation being conducted by our Head of Integrity Iain Roy and in conducting his interviews he was accompanied by two ICC integrity officers," Sutherland told reporters in Johannesburg.

"While that investigation is not complete, preliminary findings have been considered and discussed by the CA board earlier today.

"The key finding is that prior knowledge of the ball tampering incident was limited to three players: Captain Steve Smith, vice-captain David Warner and Cameron Bancroft.

"No other players or support staff had prior knowledge and this includes Darren Lehmann, who despite inaccurate media reports, has not resigned from his position.

"He will continue to coach the Australian men’s team under his current contract."

Now to hear about the CA sanctions on the 3 players. I'd like to see them all miss up to and including the next Ashes. That will hurt, the same as the taint of now us being called "cheaters". Can just imagine what the Indians think about their Tour here in November. Wincing when I think what the Barmy Army are going to sing/crow about at the next Ashes.

QF WP You have more faith in Sutherland than I do ,the rot had well and truly set in on the standards of this team under Sutherlands' and Lehmans' watch, time to go for both I would suggest.

Yes let’s see the full story (that isagreed to by all stakeholders). Let cooler heads prevail
I’m aghast that so many want their pound of flesh now while still calling for the full story!

Whatever is dished out as punishment has to be considered and measured and takes all stakeholders views into account. The multimillion dollar sponsors have a lot of power. And for the sake of cricket a wide consensus needs to occur

It’s very sad that recent achievements like the recent Ashes are now a distant memory

With a leader, I look at how they conduct themselves in the tough times. James was visibly upset at his initial press conference - he didnt want to be there, as he said, but it is his role to front the media in a situation like this (on behalf of the Board of CA). He had bad news to share, shocking and unthinkable. by people representing themselves and their country. People who he thought he knew well enough.

One learns more through mistakes than successes - and maybe that's what Australian cricket needs right now. A bit of humility and I daresay, a couple of losses to remember what it's like to win and how good that feeling makes the team. Hoping that our replacements (who are in good domestic form) can translate that to the international stage. They've all been there and this is an opportunity they should grab with both hands and get runs.

Then it will be incumbent on Bancroft, Smith and Warner to serve out their sentences and prove themselves again at a Domestic level, if they are to have any hope of representing Australia again.

I'd like to agree with you, but I feel that the Test Team culture has been in steady decline on his watch. If you don't stand up to those that have been bringing standards down for some time, then you get to share at least a small part of the blame when things go pear-shaped.

The 'frenzy' this time around doesn't seem to be an entirely media-driven phenomenon, and is unfortunately of significance in its own right to the extent that it signifies just how severely the game has been brought into disrepute.

Many many people rushed/rushing to trial, judgement and punishment without ALL the information. Media went into a complete frenzy.
Mainly because this has come as a total shock and people still struggling to understand.

Also this is the backbone of the batting. Without those 2 there's not much hope going forward as the batting line-up for next test is truly like a house of playing cards.

Sutherland along with CA execs have had enough time especially within the last two years to arrest the decline in standards it's not this one instance ,this is the last straw.

Here's the thing. The Players thrive on the Social Media. Twitter, Instagram. Not a bad thing necessarily. It raises their profile, probably brings in some lucrative contracts, makes them known as their own brand. But that comes back to haunt them when it all goes to pot. Can you have it both ways?
