"TrouserGate" - Australian Cricketers Caught Ball Tampering

As much as people may bark and cry and call for the witch hunt, what will happen is that Smith & Warner will lose their respective C & VC roles, probably for good, they'll probably miss an additional test or maybe a ODI series. I'd hazard a guess that Lehman will get the chop as well.

That is a pretty fair punishment for them all as well, if you don't think so and think there should be year bans, your letting emotion get in the way of rationality.

Or maybe we rationally assessed what we considered likely to happen and expressed our opinions.

I think Steve Smith misjudged the whole affair with the press conference.

Agree. As Michael Vaughan said, England would have never let a press conference happen and would have got lawyers involved immediately.

So Smith said the team’s “leadership group” had convened during the lunch break on day three of the third Test to concoct a plan to tamper with the ball and encourage reverse swing...and that Bancroft overheard the discussion and carried out the plan.

So that “leadership GROUP” now turns out to be just himself and one other ( Warner).?
I suspect there are more in the shadows

So it appears Warner is the one behind the plan? Leadership group <> 2. Sad that others are getting away with involvement.

Hard for CA to please everyone at least initially... impossible to respond promptly based on a thorough investigation. But also hard to prove what was said and done in the dressing room, and if it comes to a choice between making a highly unpleasant person with at least some degree of involvement the fall guy, and sacking the whole team, then...

Unfortunately the findings are only what the 3 are found guilty of.

The agreed statement of facts by all parties as to what actually occurred has not been tendered.

The coach’s role in sending out the 12th man to Bancroft has not been satisfactorily explained either.

Additionally and more importantly the “why” it happened has not been explained. This is important because it underlines the issues (if any) in Australian Cricket that led to this moment in time that will need to be addressed. There is something wrong in the sport when the Captain and Vice captain have been suspended. To discover this will require deep reflection within the entire Australian Cricket fraternity even by those who upheld the best practices and then insightful rehabilitation of the sport.

The Women’s team I’m sure would be very angry about this. They are the true amateurs - playing for next to nothing and having their sport besmirched in such a way

Now this will sting:

There was more pain for the pair on Wednesday as it emerged that the Board of Control for Cricket in India had blocked them from playing in the Indian Premier League, where they were due to earn $2.4 million each this year.

Still not sure how Lehman has come out squeaky clean ftom this incident.

But from the report, it wasn't even him and Warner. Warner was the mastermind and taught Bancroft what to do, it looks as though Smith knew they were talking about doing something. But rather then stop it there, took the don't ask, don't know on the specifics.

While some will say this puts Warner as a fall guy, is anyone really surprised? He has plenty of form behind him.

I still think 12 months is too harsh on Smith, 9 months the same as Bancroft would suffice.

There's a bit of hypocrisy in that isn't there....

Justice without mercy is unAuatralian.

A time period suspension would be meaningless seeing it's now heading to off-season, and between now and December there's only a meaningless ODI T20 series in U.K, pakistan and in Aust v South Africa and two Tests v Zimbabwe

So a shorter suspension period would be no real penalty at all

I am in no way condoning what they did (and I think their major sin is just plan downright stupidity that they thought they'd get away with it) but the sanctimoniousness of some of the ex international cricketers is just amazing. Obviously they never did anything that would alter the ball in any way or never did anything wrong

As captain of the team? Nah. The leniency relative to Warner is that Smith'll be considered for leadership roles again two years from now.

Sure. But bear in mind that they had no say in what Cricket Australia decided.

I understand that but they are all like they are Mother Theresa and have never done anything wrong in their lives

I doubt Warner will ever get back in the team tbh.

The most hypocritical one has been Vaughan, who had a member of his team (Trescothic) openly admit that they'd discussed ways to alter the balls condition.

Yep he's the one that's been getting up my nose
