I am travelling on AA from DFW-MCO in a few weeks in Y, but am ticketed on a QF flight number for the flight. When looking at the booking under 'my bookings' on the QFF site, it is telling me that I get dinner on this flight. I know AA domestic flights are normally just food for purchase. Will I really get dinner on this flight or does 'dinner' indicate being able to buy something off the trolley?

You also get to enjoy the smell of fresh baked cookies wafting through the cabin from F. That's free as well

This issue annoys lots of people flying in Y from Aus and connecting in US. The QFF site says meal included. Of course AA FA says differently. I know one person who took QF on when they got back and got compensation payment. They were really annoyed as they were travelling as a family with kids and went onto connecting flight without buying food or snacks as they had been told meal would be included. That was 3 years ago, so it should have been sorted.

Sadly, it still hasn't been fixed. It really is quite unacceptable, and having had the same happen to me a few weeks back, I am in the process of holding QF accountable for this continual oversight. I'd screen shot the flight information and deal with it when you get back. If QF prefer to compensate instead of fix a problem they are obviously aware of, I'm happy to oblige them!

What sort of compensation would you see as appropriate in this circumstance? We're not talking about a huge monetary cost/inconvenience, although I guess its a bit of a principle thing...

Not too sure actually, but its not going to be a great deal of money. And yes, it most certainly is a matter of principle. I understand things/mistakes happen, but you ignore then, once it has been brought to your attention (3 years ago, no less) at your peril.

The AA FA told me they stopped serving meals in Y approximately 10 years ago, and you honestly expect me to understand why QF cant rectify this "issue" in 10 years??
As far as i'm concerned, they have advised me that i am entitled to a meal, then i expect one, and if not, then its a breach of contract.

I for one am am sick and tired of airlines and particularly QF getting away with not meeting their obligations and expecting you to understand and be tolerant, but when you make a "mistake" (ie: not checking in on time due to traffic or god knows what) they show you no mercy and rape you with new fares, fees or charges. Time for travellers to stick up for themselves a bit more I think, even if it is only regarding a meal that hasnt been provided!

and another point id like to make is it can be a huge inconvenience. Think about it, you're on a 5 hour transcon, don't eat at your departure airport because your expecting a meal in 30 or so minutes and the FA just advises you that they have sold out of the 3 sandwiches that were loaded for sale to 200+ pax. Its not like AA can offer you a First meal as they are only loaded on a per passenger basis, so you get stuck buying a 600 calorie jumbo sized biscuit loaded with real chocolate chips that wipes out half your calorie intake for the day!! I can deal with anything as long as I have the correct information, but just dont BS me and expect me to be happy about it. Pretty simple really.

Absolutely. Companies make representations of the product they are offering. They should provide what they are representing.

Fascinating, i'm travelling on AA with QF Flight number in Jan 2012, and it clearly indicates - "MEALS YES"...

Is there a way of receiving confirmation of this in writing from Qantas as its blatantly wrong and should either be rectified or became a cause for complaint with them.

What the flight number & class?

As per this thread on AA some flights are designated meal flight where it is complimentary in First/Business but at cost in economy.

It could be said that a meal may be provided even if you need to purchase it.

QF4504 and QF4508, I'm in Y+ on the QF flights to/from Australia but in Y for the AA domestic legs. So yes i'll need to purchase. But surely Qantas should, on their website have listed "available for purchase" rather than "yes" as it implies that a meal will be provided.

I can't find a customer service contact email, only phone numbers, or a feedback form about their website.

try frequent_flyer {at} qantas.com.au

I see what you mean: QF4508 Flight Information

E/F shows "Meals: D, F" for the AA RDU flight (AA428), but "Meals: M, M, M" for the QF4508 codeshare.

D: Dinner
F: For Purchase
M: Meal

The order indicates class, AA sell First and Economy, QF sell First, Business and Economy.

Interestingly, QF show "Dinner" for the AA flight: AA428 Flight Information

Thanks Serfty. Will pop them this note I hope they do more than simply look up what their system says.

Despite experiencing this on a number of occasions, and notifying QF about it, the problem still exists and every time it happens, I bank a $100 travel voucher and encourage you to do the same.

I'm about to try AA F. What are the cookies like?
If delivered warm to hot they are sweet soft and gooey.

If warm athey can have a crunchy exterior with a softish inside - oh and sweet.

If cold they are generally crunchy throughout - but still sweet.

They are a little decadent really.
