Travel Insurance which covers COVID-19?

No drama getting coverage for USA for me.

Starting to look for insurance that covers our August to October trip. 70 days in total. The trip includes a number of cruises in Europe. Insureandgo cruise option is not available at present and multi trips have 60 day maximum.

Go Insurance is offering cruise and covid cover. Their multitrip maxes at 31 days per trip but can easily get a 70 days indovidual trip policy. Read the PDS of course to make sure it works for you.

Also note that several insurers have now added sneaky wording where they only cover bookings made after the policy is taken out and others only cover covid if policy taken out over 30 days in advance of departure.

@Mattg, Got a quote a couple of weeks ago for insureandgo it was close to $418. Just tried again using the groupon20 code and it went down to $412. I had actually used to previous code but I don’t remember what it was. This might affect if you re-quote.

I just had a look to see what the new price would be with the 20% code, and it's almost $100 cheaper. Think I might have to give them a call on Monday...

Anyone got a promo code for Go insurance?

thanks

Does anyone have any experience with GoInsurance? Just tried calling them, waited ages then selected 1 to leave a message BUT their message mailbox was full, hence could not leave a message.
Go Insurance: Travel Insurance, Holiday & Vacation Insurance
red flag?

That's interesting.

They are supposed to be a reputable provider, and I think their PDS is reasonable. But if you can't get through to them when trying to buy a policy (i.e. give them money), I'd hate to think how you would go trying to make an actual claim!

I finally got through. They do not have any promo codes. Do they realise it is 2022! ;)

just going through the issues - Amex platinum covers medical and issue an additional page specifically addressing Covid. They state that you "may" be able to claim under Medical Emergencies cover. Thats what I am going overseas with next month 👌

If anyone is interested, I just stumbled across an app called Freely (www.gofreely.com.au), which is part of Cover-More. Just purchased insurance through it for my upcoming trip and it's quite easy to use. The best thing for me about it is that you can just buy the essential, which covers COVID, without all the other add ons, which is exactly what I was looking for. It ended up being cheaper than Cover-More.

Looks like they are (temporarily) no longer offering new policies for sale.

This note is on their website:

We’re hitting pause for now. Due to Omicron and a massive return to travel, demand has exceeded our expectations.

To maintain the quality of our service, we have temporarily paused new policy sales while we focus on our existing customers.

Rest assured all existing policies are still active and remain in full force! If you’re interested, join our waiting list below and we’ll notify you when we begin selling to new travellers again - We’re aiming to re-start selling by late February.

You should have a 14 day cooling off period. Insurers can deduct some $ for days already covered through. Check the PDS.

I ended up cancelling my existing policy and got a full refund for it the next day. Was no issue, really - called up, they answered immediately and they cancelled it straight away. Have purchased a new policy with them which was $95 cheaper for the same thing.

We went with Medibank for our trip to Hawaii coming up in 4 sleeps, we found wording in other polices very restrictive, such as no cover if the country you travel to was a “do not travel” at time of booking, not time of travel…. Well, every country was do not travel when we booked, it’s how we got such a good deal… but Medibank says at time of travel.

The Covid accomodation in current class/room and airline rebooking in same class, with no limits was key for us, as we are staying at Four Seasons and flying J.

USA policies will always be more expensive, due to healthcare costs there that are hyperinflated to offset the write offs of the care they provide and don’t get reimbursed or are reimbursed at shockingly low rates (USA Medicare reimbursement).

We also picked no excess, then we have no hesitation to use the policy.

I too went with Medibank. I felt the policy wording was clearer and not designed with wriggle room that benefits insurer.

I have to drill into that World2Cover:

Has anybody used / heard of this World2Cover? It seems to have unlimited cover for Covid. https://dmwp034i1ogee.cloudfront.net/prod/PDS/W2C/01032022_World2Cover_PDS.pdf
That is not my reading of their PDS: They provide maximum of $3500 for cancellation fees etc.

Yes… there were limits of $3500 and another one for $6000. Unlimited medical coverage, but I suspect that would few and far between in terms of someone catching covid.

That's just for medical cover, almost every policy provides that for Corvid.

What is more important is coverage for additional expenses (hotel, meals, rebooking flights etc) if you have to extend your trip and isolate because you get covid (but dont end up in hospital) and cant continue/fly home.

Those are capped at $3,500 which wouldn't cover an extra week of hotel plus a business class flight home etc. I chose a policy woth $20k coverage for those things.
