Arriving Singapore on QF81 May 7th then connecting 6am May 8th on MH602 to KL. Can I get my baggage checked all the way thru to KL. I would like to stay at the transit Hotel in Terminal 2. Is this possible?

If you can't, the transfer desk can organise so you don't need to do customs etc on a lot of cases.

I'll probably just have carry on anyway...do you know if Malaysia will issue me a boarding pass 12hrs before my flight at the transfer desk in Singapore...or maybe Qantas will do it in Sydney!

If your HLO then do just do OLCI, worse case they can issue a new real BP at the transfer desk in the morning and check credentials.

If there are no vacancies in the T2 hotel, check T1 and T3 as well - they're all linked airside.

I suspect you should be able to as you'll be transferring between oneworld carriers.

How does this work? Does the transfer desk send someone to find your luggage and re-check it in for you?

They send someone down with a new tag and it then heads down the outward baggage conveyor.

the new tags are printed at the transfer desk and you are given the receipt.

Someone is sent to the luggage hall armed with the new tags. The locate your bags, change the tags over and send them on their way to be loaded to your connecting flight.

Interesting. Would this work with an inbound on QF connecting (separate ticket) to TK on a flight about eight hours later?

even if they can't check your bags all the way through, if you are intending to use the transit hotel you simply disembark and head straight there. Your luggage will be taken off the belt and stored at left luggage (securely) until you turn up. (I think that advice is actually on the hotel website.)

If you need to eventually claim your bags make sure you head out the immigration at the terminal you arrived at. (for example... if you arrive at T1 and can only get a room at T2 you would need to head back to T1 to leave the airport.)

however - if the bags are through checked, no need to worry.

It should do, but YMMV... I haven't tried this specific combo, but have done SQ onto QF with separate tickets, alliances, terminals and whatever else you can name. I believe it's a service provided by the airport rather than the airlines directly. Find a transfer desk in the terminal you arrive in and have a chat with them.

Cheers.

It is a manual process. They write out the flights on a new tag in texta. The baggage receipt number(s) is/are the same as the originally issued baggage receipt(s). They generally get on the phone and ask for the bags to be intercepted and someone must walk over and place new tags on baggage.

the new tags are printed at the transfer desk and you are given the receipt.
You must get the special treatment.

This process has now failed me 3-4 times. I have lost count. Not good enough really.

Think it's you getting the special treatment JohnK! Worked for me and everyone I know every time so far.
This includes special/oversize items and through checking on further domestic connections not associated with the flight to which I/they are transferring!

It's worked for me too. And, if you have time, you can later return to the transit desk and ask if your luggage has been successfully captured and re-routed to your onward flight. The transit desk can see this info (or so they told me).

I think you're right.

Add another to the list of inexplicable things in my life.
