To recline or not to recline... that is the question

Full plane, in economy... do you recline your seat fully?

Surfing through the BKK airport website and came across this information which recliners may find useful. I apologise if this has already been repeated somewhere on this thread or is already common knowledge.

The U.S. carrier with the most frequent flights is Northwest Airlines (153 Rajdamri Rd., Peninsula Shopping Plaza, 4th Floor, tel. 02/254- 0789). It has direct service through Tokyo (with a minimal stopover) from New York, Detroit, Seattle, Dallas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Incidentally, this airline's seats recline more than most, making sleeping much easier. Northwest also has a round-Asia fare, in conjunction with local airlines, which lets you hop from one capital to another.

What I want to know is do Northwest Airlines aircraft have personal directional air vents?
:P

Wow, strongly worded opinions aplenty... :o

A full recline is quite uncomfortable anyway, as your body goes into a rather unnatural position (bum bein in the same place while your back is leaned too far backwards).

During meal times, I always put my seat upright and certainly expect the person in front to do likewise. Fortunately, most people do understand and follow this logic.

Other than take-off, landing, turbulence and meal times, it is the RIGHTof a passenger to use the recline function in his seat. Well, it would be NICE if the person in front didn't recline at all, knowing that you're tall, or using a laptop etc, but it would be wrong on my part to go hopping mad if he did. It is wrong to expect the person not to recline. Its his right.

Economy will always be economy, so it doesn't really bother me much if the person in front is fully reclined. Nonetheless, I can improve personal comfort by using this recline feature for which I've paid for. Same goes to the person behind, who's supposedly "personal space" I'll be "infringing" upon.

If the pax behind becomes confrontational or aggressive (eg chair kicking, turned air vents) because I excercise my right to recline my seat, I'll make sure his braised beef and roast potatoes, green leaf sald with herb vinaigrette ends up on his crotch. And maybe I'll direct my personal air vent (the one located on my face) at him and provide him with some cooling fluid. (well its mine isn't it? its my right to use it anywhere i want right?)

Most of us have endured public transport at some stage (trains, busses and cabs) for periods of more than 1 hour.

I say that this reclining luxury should be extended to these transport providers just to extend the fellow travellers enjoyment of their fellow men/sheilas during these periods of strain.

I'd like to watch on CCTV!!!!

LMAO! I'm sure there are the makings of a good scene for a sitcom in this thread.

Dragging up an old thread.

I was on flight QF776 Per-Mel 28 March, and Magda Szubanski aka Sharon Strzelecki from Kath and Kim and the Jetsatr ads.

Firstly on topic. Magda reclines fully the second the seatbelt light goes off, sits up when meal is served, then fully reclines for rest of the trip.

Off topic, interesting Jetsar is fine for Sharon, but QF J class for Magda. I don't begrudge Magda, but hey all that time spent advertising the product and not using it.

That would be great to see.

Even better if I found out where the controls were

There is a lock button on the aisle side of the seats in exit rows, after takeoff you will often see a FA bend over and flick the switch!

No offence to a very fine actor, but if I were in WHY on the same flight as Magda, whis is indeed a COS (Customer of Size), I would be pleased she was in J. :P

..or vica-verca

Actually serfty, I was quite surprised, she is a lot smaller in real life than she looks on TV. Must have been using padding or has lost alot of weight

Maybe you need to change your TV from 16:9 widescreen back to standard 4:3 picture size. Make eveyone look taller and thinner  .

I don't need to be any taller (current height is fine for sitting on aircraft), so is it possible to have one without the other? Oh yes, that is not done with electronics, but with diet and exercise. That's where I go wrong - I too much of one and not enough of the other  .

I'm sure there's a few here who feel the same way. (me included)

I've always said that my problem is that I am undertall for my weight, but really I am not sure I would want to be too much taller. I am quite familiar with your problem of diet and exercise, suffering the same fate myself.

this has got to be one of the funniest topics on any forum i have been on in my life!!!!!
reclining.....what a topic!!!
recline for sure, but dont do it in meal times, its edicate. Why should they deserve their food in their lap??
manners people, didnt your mother teach you any!!??
as big jobs put it nicely...
"if you recline your seat that is your business. please also appreciate that where i point my air con vent and how fast i have it on is my business.

just as having your seat reclined is your choice, having my vent on full blast and pointing forward is my choice. if you do not like that then we can discuss our options."

"understand that you can have your seat where ever you like and i can have my vent anywhere I like.

(LMAO!!)

oh what a controversial issue
