Oh dear.... :-|

Please send feedback to Qantas.

Yes, please do. The previous RedRoo at least indicated that they took this seriously.

I guess the many Yankees through there just do it out of habit.

All QF need to do is put up a few signs......it's a nice place otherwise.

But the hands that giveth the $$ notes in the bathrooms can taketh away any signs.

I had the $2 scam played on me on Feb 22 at LAX oneworld J Lounge.
I literally did not have even a dime of US money left on me so I couldn't, but had I had any left I probably would have fallen for it.

QANTAS should pay their staff enough that they don't need to seek tips. Trying to compel tipping is against our culture. This problem is so serious that staff should be instructed to not only not seek tips but reject any offers to tip. They should do random inspections to verify that staff are behaving themselves. How hard can this be? This thread shouldn't need to exist.

Qantas has said that they do pay them appropriately and that there is no need for their staff to be seeking tips.

Pick up the money and take it to the front desk staff.

You can't pick it up.
They pick it up when they escort you to a freshly cleaned bathroom stall, making sure you see it

Only if you actually left a tip you would do it when you leave the dirty bathroom.

Lol. Tell them it's yours that you left before.:) Camera is worth a few words u know.

Well the manager of the lounge could be responsible to make sure the signs remain there and get into trouble if a random inspection finds they are not there. There has to be a way to make things work properly.

Does anyone ever confront/call out the staff when this happens? What is the reaction when it's made known that you are aware that this is a scam? Or do people say nothing to avoid making any waves in the airport environment?

I also wonder this.
Someone should questions it and be like "Oh you didnt clear the room, can you show me another. Oh thats not clean either" See how long it takes to get the message.

Please report all incidents of tipping solicitation or bathroom $$ scam to me, and I will follow these things up.

Management are under the belief that this is no longer occurring - and times/dates/details are required.

So if you see this - please PM me

Greed always wins out.

The LAX lounge staff are paid well above grade for domestic US hospitality, my understanding is that QF/Accor took the hourly rate as high as they were allowed to go (as I believe there are constraints on this). This is simply staff who are used to getting tips putting their hand out as is the custom, and knowing that more often than not they'll get something.

Personally I find the tipping culture one of the most uncomfortable things about visiting the US. It's just so different to our culture where we expect people to be paid properly and see tips as something you might give for that superb service that is going far and beyond what's expected and better than what you've seen for several years, not something to be done as a matter of routine.

Honestly, I'm happy to tip someone if the space is super clean and well serviced. Let's not forget what wages are like in the US. While Qantas may claim to be adequately compensating, I can imagine how liveable that wage is. why be mean?

What's the wage that is paid. Can't seem to find it.
